Indeed we do dp (see my other thread)
but if roads were to become privately owned surely the onus would be on the owner to keep the road in a good state of repair.
Unfortunately we don't have that many arterial routes in the uk so if the road was crap what alternative would we use?
we have one in leeds as a trial thing (come to think of it we have a lot of trial schemes in leeds)
Your car reg is logged everytime you use the road and at the end of the month you get a bill. Can't comment on the outcome yet.
Another road scheme they tried here is the multi passenger lane
If you're in the car on your own you have to travel in the inside lane.
If you have a passenger in with you, you get to travel in the outside lane.
At the end of the duel carriageway the road has lights with the outside lane getting priority over the inside if you get my drift.
The idea being to get people to give workmates a lift into work.
Unfortunately there is another road that runs parallel with the duel carriageway so everyone uses this instaed, so the congestion just gets moved around.
