Bought a Caberg Trip helmet on tinternet. Delivered and everything is fine but there is a half round rubbery bit with some extension lugs on it in the box. There's nothing on the instructions to say what it is. Anyone got any ideas? The helmet seems fine as it is but I'm wondering if its some sort of anti fog bit or something but I can't see where it should go! I'm not usually this thick or am I missing something here? Senility setting in!

Erm, can you take a pic of said 'half round rubbery thing'?

hmm, well on my v2 there is a half round rubberyu thing that clips into the bottom of the chin bar area to seal the wind from blowin up your nose. personally i never felt like usin it as it seemed to hinder the old fogging glasses issue.

half round !

sounds like a skirt to clip into the BOTTOM of the chin guard - just to cut down on the daught a bit - the lugs will just press in between lining and shell.

The breath/anti fog guards are normally sculpted to fit around the nose.

I've got a Caberg Trip and I got one of those chinny-guard-windshield things with it, so I guess that's what this mysterious half-round rubbery bit is.

I binned mine. More trouble than it's worth. What are you supposed to do with it when you decide to ride open-faced** in the sunshine?

Ah Yes! It now becomes clear. This is one of those afterthoughts by a designery person. I agree! I will leave it in the box to allow the breeze to keep my specs clear. Thanks for the info folks.

Well I suppose that Caberg are making the assuption that you will be riding leagaly and not actually ride with the front unlocked rolleyes.gif

I'm not sure about the trip, but I beleive with the justissimo that you can completely remove the front and use it as an open face quite legally. However you cannot just flip the front up and ride like that legally.

Its all to do with type approval I think and the justissimo has type approval with the front completely removed as an open face, and with the front flipped down as a full face.

However I dont think its legal to have the sun visor down in open face mode as the sun visor isnt rated as a visor, eg there is no guarentee that a stone impact wouldnt cause the entire thing to shatter whereas the actual visor itself is (My V2 certainly has a bit of blurb about not riding with the regular visor up and the sun visor down).

I would guess its all the same for the trip but I dont know for sure, its the same as you cant ride with a full face without the visor in place (and i'm not sure but there may be a grey area about riding with the visor up)

Edit: Just realised I'm not sure if the "regular" visor stays in place when converted to open face mode, if it does then I guess it would be okay to use the sun visor as you would have the regular visor in front of it.

Your right Finn its all about how it was impact tested and they have not been tested with the front attached and unlocked, making its use in that form illeagal - having said that I have seen many police riders who think it is ok lbhh.gif

My understanding of the sun shield is that it is not a "visor" and as such falls into the same catagory as your sun glasses - i.e. you can do what you like - I could be wrong but thats how the rep tells it and the Caberg blurb about not using it as a visor is so you can't sue them, just as a sun glasses company would tell you they were not made for that purpose.

In real life I have known one or two people get pulled and warned not to ride with the front open - but its very rare, I don't think most police know the regs on this one. I have never heard of anyone being done for riding without a helmet while doing this - but there is always a first time.

Personally I would not ride with any open face configeration but if I did I think I would treat it like the black visor I used to wear (when I was young and thought image meant something lbhh.gif ) I used to just flip it up quick then you could not tell if it was tinted, clear or black.

Well you live & learn bowdown.gif

It never occurred to me that riding open-face might be illegal... I've been doing it for years!! I only do it at low speeds, pottering round the suburbs and the like; the wind gets hold of the open lid if you go quicker than about 40.

Obviously I'll stop the practice immediately. rolleyes.gif eyebrow.gif

You should have a look at pretty much EVERY bike cop in central London then wink1.gif

They all seem to ride around with the front up on their helmets ooh2.gif
