The VFR is almost standard. I've never went down the route of buying end cans and stuff for it but I have been tempted. The VFR only gets replacement parts, when the other bits wear out. That'll be the Scottishness in me.

I see brand new bikes, which have had the cans replaced, new screens, different indicators. It must cost a small fortune to do, especially after forking out for a new bike in the first place.
A lot of the stuff does add to the look of the bike though. So the question is, does your bike get pampered and treated like a mistress with expensive gifts lavished upon it.

Riding a bike, is like making love to a beautiful woman...

the ZZR gets serviced on a regular basis, washed once or twice a month, parts replaced with pattern or OE parts as necessary.
the VN, well
i'm sure i washed it last year.
but it does get serviced as & when.
If i'd been allowed to keep the cb900(you know who you are) i would have experimented with ickle indicators, bars , paint etc, but it always was going to be a project bike-the lengths some peeps will go to spoil my fun.

At the moment I'm spending a small fortune on the Sprint, bu that's rebuilding it
But yes, I do spend a lot of money on my bike(and the one before this). So far the Triumph as been treated to a belly-pan, a dark tinted double-bubble screen, a grab rail and a luggage rack. I WAS going to fit a Renegade hi-level exhaust but I fell out with Jorge so forget that.
The SV had a new LOUD can(essential on a v-twin), hugger, luggage rack, heated grips and Top Block Crach Bungs.
Both bikes have had vast amounts of time and money spent on them being kept clean and shiny.
Also I have bought all the little things that make garage/shed life easier: paddock stands front and rear, a moto-mover, a wheelspin etc.
I also have enough kit to fully kit out a pillion in very decent gear: 2 Arai helmets, 2 HG winter jackets, one set of HG winter trousers, a Dianese 2 season cordura jacket, 1 set of leathers, spare race gloves and spare winter gloves.
I just can't go into Hein Gericke or Bikesorce without buying something

i'm a secret scot in that case........
i spend as little as possible! if you saw a piccie of my honda when i first got it and as it is now(but not stripped) it looks like it had £100's spent on it, i spent £50 max! its just paint and a lot of polish! and bits for mot
as long as its safe, reliable, and legal where it matters, not pissing oil everywhere and clean it does me

I've seen the price of Triumph parts for my mates RS.

I'm not surprised its costing a small fortune.
All the parts came in nice wee Triumph bags though.
If I had the cash, I'd probably do it myself. There's a few things I'd like to replace. Like the rear shocker and the exhaust for starters but you're probably talking about over £1000.

I'd be better putting that sort of money towards a trade in.

Full price from dealer for parts :£1104!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have so far sourced a can for an ST(which needs modded to fit) off ebay for £21 (dealer £462), I have manged to find a specialist Triumph Breakers in Wales ( Triumphant 01443691666) who are sending me a side panel, brake pedal and mirror for £100 +VAT and postage. All i need now is a top fairing, abr-end and brake lever and she'll be good as new

Its just a year old, has less than four k on it and its up for a gnats under nine grand. you could buy a brand new one for less than that and there's the rub - does any of the extra cash spent on bits get reflected in the price? or, does the extra spent on bits make the bike more sellable?

I like the wheels. I'd like to get the viffer wheels done like that but I don't think the blue belly pan matches the rest of the bike.
I wonder how much all that stuff cost to do? Wouldn't have been cheap. If you're gonna do that stuff, you've got to think of the bike for long term ownership. If you don't, you're just wasting money.

I spent 650 on my GSXR 1100 as soon as I bought it on tyres, chain/sprockets, pads, a fork seal and head bearings. I've been trying to sell it for a while for 2000 grand and it's on e bay now. If I can't sell it this week I'll keep it and upgrade the shocks and fit an akropovic exhaust system, that'll set me back about a grand.

Mine's as it came (I changed the speedo/headlight for UK ones as it was a parallel) except for alarm, hugger, tank guard and Scottie. I stuck some Busa 6 pot calipers on the front 'cos a: I could, b: I got them very cheap.
Can, airfilter and carbs are all as they left the factory. I figure that Suzuki spent a small fortune developing the complete in - bang - out again set-up and fiddling with one or all of them could make things worse. Probably why it's hardly missed a beat in 6 years and still runs as sweet as a nut and pulls like a steam train.

I am guilty of buying after market bits for the xjr but only ones like ..
Scott oiler /radiator s/s cover/fiam horns as the others were crap/luggage /t.bag/fly screen/n' loads a polish.
It came to me in a vision that changing things like exausts to illegal one's drew attention to me while out n about, I learnt from an early age after being in court for noise /speeding x 3/driving at a speed dangerouse to the public x1 back in 1965/6 that I should return to the roads of sane people which I have done for many a year and Im here to tell the tale..

well I can now..

its frustrating in my line of work, the times i've had the opportunity to do a one off paint job i can count on one hand. peeps are scared (in the most part) to do anything other than standard in case they cant sell it later.

I think my most expensive purchase must be a front mudguard for my 400/4 at about £100. Unfortunately the freebie one I'd been given 5 years earlier had needed replacing. Oh, and I paid £60 for an exhaust system but I had to modify it slightly with the lid of a pineapple tin to cover the holes that someone had drilled in the end to make it sound better. It didnt, because they sound great when standard anyway, and it didn't run right without the proper back pressure.
I'd be grateful if anyone can tell me where I can get good brake pads for it. I can buy loads for £2 a pair but they aren't the greatest for stopping. The 70's brake was never brilliant so any help in that department would be good.

getting the discs drilled helps a lot, and braided hoses.
400 superdreams forks, wheels and brakes fit but itwould kill the value of the bike (i've had one) but the brakes are a lot better

Ian, I thought 2000 quid for a 94 GSXR 1100 WP was cheap. I'd looked on biketrader, adtrader, loot, mcn etc and put mine up for 300 less than anyone elses bike. All the other one's I've seen advertised have been between 2300-2500. I'll probably keep it now it's growing on me.

Sorry Wilf its a bad habit of mine (occupational hazard, I write insurance policies for a living) picking up on others little mistakes. It does mean I have to be ultra cautious I don't make any myself as people generally take great delight in telling me when they think I'm wrong as a result (though of course I never am they've just misinterpreted

).

My bike stands me in about £1100 including purchase, but i just love to change it from time to time. And here it is ....
