What are visor inserts like, I'm having grief with the low sun i.e. I can't see where I'm going half the time! I've got a Shoei Raid and was wondering about visor inserts or tinted, black visors. Any words of wisdom?

I usually have a black visor in my topbox, matter of a minute to change it, just was too lazy tonight rolleyes.gif

i used to use black, they work great(not that i was a poser or anything saint2.gif ) its a bit of a bugga if it gets dark tho or bad light! all you can see is street lights n tail lights then Oo1.gif

What you could do (i can't remember where I picked this up) is go to a place that puts the tinted windows on cars- you'll know the place when you see them- full of rude boiz with cars powered by the vibrations of their bass boxes.

Anyway- go there and ask if they have any off cuts you can take off their hands.

It's normaly just coloured sellotape so you just cut a strip to fit your visor and put it on the top quarter (or so) if it.
so when it's sunny and in your eyes- you just need to tilt your head down a bit more and it will help.

You could always have the word WILF printed on it too- like those tacky sun strips with names on that you get on mid 1980's Ford Capri's buttrock.gif

With fully tinted visors you might get hassle with the coppers though- something to do with tinted visors obstruct vision or something (but oddly enough you can wear sunglasses under your lid rolleyes.gif )

yes that stuff works to, i have had it covering the full visor, you just need to make sure you get all the bubbles out, ones it on you can't get it off tho, it leaves the glue behind

i like the "wilf" along the top idea tho.... but were do you hang the furry dice? wwww.gif

Do you honestly want me to answer that before 9pm?

It's called window tint surprisingly enough and you can get road legal stuff abot 50% light restriction.
As far as i know you fit it on the insied of the visor/window so the local scallys can't peel it off.
However as woodz says it's a bugger to fit.
best way to go about it is use a little window cleaner and "squeegee" it down with an old bank card or some stiff plastic.
get a chunk larger than the visor then trim down afterwards with a razor blade or scalpel blade.

It's a good idea but I'd be stuck with it when I don't need it and a replacement visor is expensive. I'll give visor inserts a go, if I don't like them at least the visors still ok.

You can get a device called a Pinlock, It is similar to a Fog City but it is removeable, they come in several tints too. They cost £15 at visor shop. I use them in my dark visor, far superior to Fog City.

I had a look 'nana but they fit the pins to the visor and then supply the pinlock inserts. It'd cost me 50 quid, too steep for this cowboy. A genuine smoke Shoei visor is 45 quid.

Mrs PLUG has just bought a new lid having a two visors one on the out side n' the other inside being the dark tint type, she says its the best lid she's owned and is very happy with it as my GOLD LID DAZZLES HER..poor thing laughcont.gif

Is that a shoei or lazer evolution/revolution? I nearly bought a lazer at the bmf last year but the internal visor kept fouling my huge nose! i have used all manner of visors and inserts and found the best to be a pair of light reactive glasses ( seeing as how i have to wear glasses anyway to see where im going), which DP put me on to. glasses however carry their own dangers.
Anth
And what are the dangers of having to wear glasses?

I'm permanently stuck with mine- can't even see the screen without them.

How sad does that sound?
ZOMB!E
Not as sad as you think! i was shocked when i took an eye test about two years ago i think and found my eyesight to be absolutely crap!

basically the danger of glasses is that you have glass less than an inch from your eyeball and if you crash and break the glass....well.......you see what im getting at.

if yuo have to wear glasses ( like me) then get some light reactive ones, they're brilliant and really fast changing these days.
Ian
better still get plastic lenses, they are lighter and don't shatter like glass and you can also get bendy plastic frames so less likely to dig into your skull on impact or if you can wear them contact lenses.
Wilf
I had my eyes tested years ago and the optician asked if I rode a motobike, when I said yes she advised me to get plastic ones and I've had them ever since.
I've got the visor inserts and they seem to work well.I may chop one down and fit it to the lower 1/3 of the visor so when I have the visor up it acts as a kind of peak and down I'll be able to see through the clear bit.
