I have a thundercat 02 reg. The chain is getting slack on a regular basis. I am concerned as I have had a chain snap on a bike of mine before, luckily no one was hurt.
My question is, do i just by a new chain or do i save up and buy new chain and sprockets... I have very little money and I am leaning toward just a chain as I don't want to wait forever.

Is there any particular chain that i should buy?? X ring or O ring? How much do they cost and is there any reccomendations ??

Much appreciated.
Tom
Not sure about much really, but am sure that if you decided on new sprockets, one less tooth on the front and

one more on the back..plenty more acceleration!! (As long as you don't need 160 top end!! ooh2.gif grin.gif )

Right the rules are...

Change chain and sprockets together....that way they both bed in together ans mesh properly etc etc

End of the rules lbhh.gif

You could if you wish to cut corners inspect both sprockets (you will need to do your home work as to what to look for it's not just a case of oooh yes it has teeth on it it must be ok wwww.gif ) and if in good order just bung a chain on...this might work ok ish but chances are you will shorten the overal life of the new chain you fit Oo1.gif this will obviously then be more expensive in the long run rolleyes.gif

TBH the sprockets are not that expensive anyway.

X ring is the dogs doo daars, O ring is probably a requirement.....so for you O ring will do nicely wink1.gif

Off the top of my head parts will probably cost about £80-£100 for a 600 but you may wish to double check that....fitting it yourself will obviously be cheaper...expect £30-£50 pounds an hour in a shop and they will probably charge for an hour I guess.

What Mot says - always change them as a set, and an 'O' ring chain will be perfeclty fine on a 'Cat

if it were me...i would change the sprockets and chain at the same time, wouldnt bother with crap O rings and would buy DID heavy duty gold chain. well worth the money, and will save you pennies in the long run

I'm with Billy on this, the gold x rings cost a bit more but last far longer, add a scottoiler to that and you'll see a definite long-term/high mileage benefit. JT sprockets are good n cheap but a tad noisy, the other options are more expensive (i.e. OEM, Renthal, Supersprox) but a better long term option.

A few weeks ago we need a chain/sprockets for the GPZ, trawled the net but it was actually cheaper to get them from Hunters at Newcastle, it might be worth giving them a ring

I'm gonna be a smug b!tch here and say I also need a achain and sprocket set. But a friend of ours races and has a set there that he bought for the CBR600F he used to have and didn't fit cos he bought the new RR!!

Lucky or what!! Sorry... lbhh.gif

Back on topic though, yeah, I'd do them together.
