Uturns and figure of eights are something i take pride in. Im glad you mentioned this as when this was asked before most people went for 'faster in corners' getting my knee down 'etc. I was surprised at how few people thought their low speed control needed work.

as a bonus i get to take the really bad ones out (again) during the coming week-treat or what
you know some people just weren't destined to ride bikes.
today the best of the bunch was a lad who could ride without doubt, but had learning difficulties(couldnt read the numberplate for the eyesight check)nothing wrong with his eyes-just cant distinguish letters/numbers poor lad, didnt know his left from his right-its the hardest thing to explain something without sounding patronising, he was riding a scoot, which i've no doubt he could strip & re-build blindfolded, but getting him to turn in the direction i wanted was a major obstacle for him-still the smartarris who laughed at him openly on the yard looked really sick when i told him to go away & read the highway code, cos imho he wasnt ready to do the 2 hrs roadwork
the lad with learning difficulties got his DL 196 BTW.

Anyway, i tend to suffer from roadrage quite a lot & i'm over protective of my students when doing cbt/das roadwork.
I lack just about fecking everything.
I'm rusty as feck from being off biking too long.
prolly the biggest problem is fluidity ( if such a word exists)
The riding never feels 100% smooth.
what i need is more bike time and practice.

Riding in the rain........no probs, rode to the BMF show in may and it was like riding the bike through a car wash, speed.........i have a very healthy respect for my bike and know only too well that ubuse of the go handle could probably kill or mame me. BUT, my problem is leaning the bike over around the country lanes, i get it over so far and i get that voice in my ear saying "mind the earris end don't flip out" I don't know why i can't get get to grips with this, cos i've never lost it on a bend or come close to it for that matter and the zed has got a brand new set of rubber that's all scrubbed in, so i need your help here guy's, how do i overcome my pathetic abitily to lean ? Is there any courses that i could sign up for to get me around this obsticle (or bend !!

After readin ghtese posts i have decided my own list of faluts is longer than i thought!
Roadrage - check
lack of confidence in the wet- check
thinking i know everything - check
filtering when i dont really need to - check
going too fast - check
DP - good one to the bloke and fingers up to the other prat!
PC - confidence will help you lean and this comes from practising leaning - bit catch twenty two i know! I find looking as far ahead as possible through bends helps enormously.

My smaller problem is that I lack ability and I'm so bad I must be dangerous.

my BIG norty thing is i use the front brake, but rarely the back, the back brake only gets used in the "OH SH*T!!!!!" moments, last year i took the honda to get some wielding done, stuck my right pinky out to turn right, went for the back brake and it just went down n down but no stoppy!, plus the tickover was a tad high! it just kept on goin! i'd had the backend to bits and didn't bleed the brake, what a prat!
with me been tall the bike does a lot of the leaning, very stange to watch so im told

i adopted this aproach after nearly smacking my head off an on coming car on a v tight bend, me and this guy made eye contact! lol luckily that was all
i'm not the fastest rider in the world, crap in the wet, i give up trying to wheelie when my LC's clocks smacked me in the face!

I agree with sheebee, ride at your own pace in your own style, new test passers if they've got the money can buy any bike it doesn't mean they can handle them. There's more to keeping a rapid pace than just opening the throttle. On the TV recently I heard that the death rate amongst older people taking up bking is higher than that of the younger ones. That's because they've more money than sense, learn gradually you'll live longer.

this is v true, its a lot to do with born again bikers going out and buying fireblades and GSX-R's and thinking they can still ride one, but in reality the last bike they owned was a GSX11, their reactions are slower and theres a lot more traffic on the road!
i know a few people say they've come up to round abouts and corners 20mph faster than they should do simplily because the fairing removes the wind pressure and they just don't realise the speed they are going, i remember years ago a friend sed he nearly blacked out coz he sat up early and the wind force hit him so hard it took his breath away
but i'm a good born again....i got the same type of bike i had 10yrs ago :tounge: because i am old(so my middle daughter goes to great pains to tell me"

As a member of Northumbria Advanced motorcyclists, i am privy to Northumbria police accident figures.
the most vunerable bikers up here are the recent DAS test passees, followed by the born agains. most accidents occur after the winter lay off(i get asked quite a lot to take peeps out after the winter for a refresher)
i ride all year around, but accept certain pussies dont like the cold, wet snow etc

& understand how some peeps can be caught off guard by a little too much throttle.

gravel bumpy road, corner too tight-its NEVER
going too fast for the conditions, my ability etc

The thing to remember about tracks is:-
1, there aren't many stationary objects for you to hit i,e lamposts, cars, shop fronts, trees etc
2, Mr plod is not gonna chase you and do you for racing on the public highway (which if memory serves carries a mandatory 1 year ban)
3, No one's gonna pull out of a side junction and wipe you out.
the list could go on and i probably sound like mr boring fart here but hey it's your life!!

Feck me, that would have been nasty. He's lucky thats all he injured.
I wonder how badly damaged the car was. A large bike hitting a car at over a ton, must have a fair amount of force behind it. I dare say it will be a concentrated impact point as well. Could be nasty for a car driver, if a bike hit the car door. He might find a bike sitting on his lap.

i remember when i was about 16 there was a piccie of a gs1000 stuck in the side of a morris 1000 van up to its sidepanels...the van was on its side!
3 of my mates+ pillions rolled a yugo, the first 2 bikes hit the yugo as it pulled out to overtake, doing speeds of about 110mph, the first bike a gpz600 hit the car and went straight up in the air, the car went sideways then rolled, next bike a gsxr750 hit the rolling car and hit the deck, the 3 bike z750 hit the gpz when it landed!! the only part servicable on the gpz was the back wheel
guy on the gpz broke his jaw, and had a bird cage round his head for 6 months, his girlfriend broke a leg, gsxr rider broken arm, pillion, back injures, the lad on the z750 came of worse! he ripped out a knee cap on the kill swith, spend more time in hospital than anyone else! his pillion saw the gpz comin and bailed!!
