Hey all

I've just bought a 2yr old XR125, cracking bike and I'm liking it a LOT already! However, one thing I need to do to it is an oil change but I have no idea where things are, how much oil it takes, wether filters need replacing etc. Does anyone have any tips that will help or even have a manual I can have a copy of??

I don't know if Haynes do a manual yet. Warm the bike.Release old old oil via drain plug/bolt underneath engine normally.Refit plug/bolt having checked/renewed copper washer.Top up with the right grade/type of oil to fill level on dipstick or filler window. The oil normally goes in the right side of the engine on top,,normally above the clutch but check for your type of bike if not sure.Failing that, seek help from a local reputed bike mechanic.Good luck.

Hi

Yeah I've heard of these, however my bike is a 2004 and that manual only covers 1979-2003. I would imagine mine has a few changes since that manual came out! Cheers though.

The engine fitted to the XR125 is the same as the CG125, so I'd imagine a manual that covers recent CG models would be okay for checking oil quantities/filter changes etc. I think the Clymer manual covers the off-road/motocross XR rather than the road-going XR125 which is totally different.

Now I'm confused lol!

What differences are there between the off road XR and the road going XR125? I would have assumed they still use the same engine?

The off road XR125 is basically a slightly higher tuned 4-stroke competition oriented bike not intended for road use, totally different engine and completely different kettle of fish. Your XR125 basically has a Honda CG125 engine in a new trail bike style chassis, designed from the ground-up as a road bike not a competition bike. It really just uses the same name as the off road only competition oriented bike. If you look at this the engine specs are the same as the CG125:

The differences are the engine, state of tune (i.e. power output), suspension and pretty much the complete chassis. The road going XR125 is basically a CG125 engine in a new trail styled chassis, it wasn't designed as a purely off-road/competition bike but as a road bike with some of the appearance of one.
I'd imagine at least someone has produced a manual for the new XR125, but if they haven't I'd suggest a recent CG125 one would do for getting an idea of basic maintenance needed.
