Hi,
I am hoping someone might be able to help.
My wife lost her only key to her ZZR600E, I know I can replace the ignition barrel without any hassle but does anyone know how I get at the seat lock without damaging the fairing?

Cheers
Ben

Yes mate - stick a load of gaffer tape all over the edge of the nearside seat panel ( left ) after putting a strip of bubble wrap on the edge first, and get yourself a very long handled screwdriver with a flat blade. Pull the seat up as high as you can and pull the side panel down as far as you can ( best get a mate to help). then jam the screwdriver up into the mechanism and push it sideways to pop the lock . Make sure you have a look at the mechanism - its a simple device - but make sure you have a look first so you only move the mechanism and not just waggle the screwdriver around willy nilly hoping for the best.

OR.....

you can get to it with a long bladed screwdriver by coming up from underneath the rear wheel undertray thing. but its a right fiddle and you cant see the mechanism that way.

I see someone's had to do this before.... LoL

or remove the ignition and take to a lock smith to make up new keys....

had to do that for my bandit 400. got a pair of perfect keys and wasnt to expencive either

Thanks Zombie,
I will try that first as the lock smith shop is up a really steep hill, don't fancy pushing her bike up that!

Anyone know a 'dyno' place in hampshire?
I have just finished rebuilding my ZX7r and after putting a new Remus Revolution exhaust on I noticed a difference in response.

I used to get a real kick from 7000rpm with the rotted standard exhaust. But now after a new cam chain, head overhaul and new exhaust system my bike surges from low down (about 2500/3000rpm) all the way up to near the red line. I don't believe it's more powerful but it feels very different from before.

Is this normal with an aftermarket exhaust? Or is it best I get it dyno'ed to make sure the bikes okay?

Remus told me that I don't need to get the bike rejetted.

Mate, if the bike now has power from 2500 revs all the way to the redline i would suggest it was a bag of poo before the work and give thanks to god and remus for this liberation of a fantastic engine! hth!

You'll need to carb balance anyway once the new exhaust goes on: that's more important than the air to fuel mixture to keep vibration out of the engine.

She feels different and sounds it when any new exhaust goes on.

Put her back to FACTORY STANDARD for a default base line road test........ and then play with all the different cabueretion variables(SP) with the new exhaust system you want to put on and do the standard performance measurements again.

It's easier to just design a new exhaust system, but don't bother with exup valves cos if the bike is laid up, the buggers just stick and give u more maintenance down time for the BIKE.

Eve's an 88 exup provided no real performance benefits......87 !st yr test prototype........88 ironed out the problems, but Yamaha just had to get too clever in 89 as theircompetitors stole the genesis five valve technology..... or was it the design for the Deltabox Framd which as sectional decreased bike weight giving better power to weight ratio.

Thank God Eve's an 88 Yamaha Genesis 1000 only ever ridden by me on the Track.

I let ,, Leigh ride her on the ROAD i don't ride that well to risk her on a road yet. I might drop her and hurt her .

Love,

You would have been welcome to Katie's key, she's scrap, but they got stolen at the accident site. Along with my front door key. Know how you feel, I can't afford a new front door.

I'll phone her storage next week and see if she's been taken, but I consider her unlucky as she killed my husbnad, so if they've done as I asked Atholl took a sledgehammer to the rest of her, so there's no posibility of accident damaged parts being sold on to kill someone else. hearts.gif

Wife found her motorcycle key, after I had brought second hand lock set for the bike.

Key was discovered after checking awful smell from oven when cooking.
She had some how lost it in there for the past 3 weeks, apparently! She doesn't do much cooking......

It probably was, never owned a ZX7r before. Had the engine checked by mechanic, all ok. So looks like the overhaul and new exhaust has sorted it proper.
Looking forward to brighter, longer and dryer days.
