im still trying to decide what bike to get next. I had narrowed it down to either a gsx1400 or a xjr1300 as both have nice smooth engines and a comfy riding position. However today i had a go on a 2003 triumph rs fitted with the 955 engine and i have to say i was quite impressed with it. Ive normally found bigger triumphs abit tall for me and a early triumph sprint i tried was very top heavy. However this one fitted me like a glove and although it had clip on style handlebars they are higher that on my sv1000s and hence more comfy.
Anyone else had one or tried one and what did they think of it?

I had a 2000 model Sprint RS. To be honest mate, i couldn't wait to get rid.
It's not that it wasn't a good bike, becasue she was. She did everything i wanted, but it was so bloody boring.
In 17 yrs of riding it was the most uninspiring bike i have ever ridden, and as such has actually put me off ever owning a Triumph again!
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news......

Yep it had the 955i. Don't get me wrong, the build quality was good, she was pokey, and plenty of torque, but it was just sssooooo bland.
Plus, and this was a biggie for me, there were very few aftermarket parts available, and parts were limited unless you got them from Triumph!
I have had an SV650 and currently ride a VTR 1000 so i can appreciate what the SV1000 is like. Personally i would stay with the twin, but hey, thats personal preferance for you!

Egg n bacon has a sprint so he might be a good one to ask.
From what I remember although they all had the 955i engine (until the 1050cc in 2005+) in 2002 the st/rs got a power bump which made it a bit more powerful (5-10bhp).

Had! For four months. Liked the bike but 'er indoors had problems with the pegs (old injury).
Did a review a little while back
hereI'd recommend them. Originally they were damned expensive, now 2nd hand values make them a decent buy.
