Now the Autumn is very much here and the Winter is just around the corner, the night will be drawing in so i'm going to get a hi-viz jacket soon for obvious reasons.

I'm looking at getting something like on the link below, that I can get in a large sizze and wear it over my textile jacket. I just want to make sure what the rules are about not looking too much like a copper, I don't want to wear something that i'm going to be constantly pulled over for - would I be ok wearing something like that?

I have one exactly like that, dont see any problems with it, have also seen several bikes wearing them on my commute.

Although I am reserving mine for when its really cold as over the top of my textiles I was baking hot the one day I wore it, the rest of the time I use a fluro waistcoat.

Did have a couple of issues with it though, found it quite distracting seeing my arms fluro in my mirrors, quick glance I tended to "see" my arms and not whatever was behind me. Also make sure the collar is fully fastened up, otherwise the shoulders inflated and I couldnt see past them on shoulder checks!

Nothing wrong with wearing them. You won't have any problems off the police. Unless you stick big blue POLICE badges on lol smile1.gif

I have a long sleve version of a Normal vest ,,, so it is thin and not very hot,,plus you can wash in and it drys overnight...

never had a problem with it,, actually when the weather is bad and the Mway is packed, car tend to make way as soon as they see you in the mirror,, probably thinking I am a cop,,, but that is up to them to think it.....
I am not pretending anything......

There's a guy in Reading on a white Pan Euro, with a white flip lid and fluoro coat. He even has orange & Yellow stripes on the bike. He is something to do with a security firm, but he looks for all his worth like a cop and even parks up on the Oxford Road.

I imagine that unless you stick Police badges on, you're OK.

Then again, I'd like some of the actual Officers' here to advise on this matter...

Well done, I've just started wearing a hi-viz vest myself now that it's getting darker when I'm riding to/from work.

I read a thing on the whole police question a whileback. Seems that you can have a white Pan with the reflective stripes, you can have the hi-viz jackets with checkers, you can virtually mimic the police gear completely and buy all the same leathers and bits.

So long as you do not act like the police you're not doing anything wrong. For example, you can ride around in all the similar gear without troubles, but should you pretend to be a policeman by trying to wave at someone to pull over then you're breaking the law. It's about your actions, not the clothing.

Hence strippers don't get arrested for wearing WPC uniforms. beer.gif

I've a mate that looks like a policeman on his bike and his biggest gripe is that bikers never ovetake him and cars are prone to braking hard when they see him in their mirrors lbhh.gif

There's a guy round here that's gone a bit OTT with the hi-vis stuff. He rides the obligatory white Pan with bright orange blocks on the sides with light blue stripes and he wears all the hi-vis gear and white helmet. He gets laughed at all the time cos he looks like a frickin fairground ride! But the main point is he does get seen... mainly through squinting eyes lbhh.gif

Not quite right as the clothing does make a difference, so does having items associated with them ie Handcuffs (Miss Stun!!!!!) and other such things as are deemed by the Home Office.

However, it is usually the clothing in conjunction with the use it is being put, but you can be dealt with solely on possesion of items. I will dig out the correect wording over the next couple of days and post it up........
