Just got a Creg import - Honda 750. Don't know if it's CB or CBX. How do I tell? Engine is DOHC Bike was originally white, but is now Black, Gold wheels, Black cans and has a fairing. Any help appreciated! Thanks.

Welcome Joe, any chance of a pic.

Although Woodz might know. He's got a CB750 himself.

CBX has a black engine, 16 front wheel anti dive forks top half fairig with twin square headlights, the engine is a lot norrower than a CB750, if i remember right the CBX's where normally red or silver

Thanks for that. Engine is black but headlights don't appear to be square! Will get a photo tomorrow.
In anticipation, Greasy Joe.

Here's the pics of GJ's bike.

GJ, I hadn't enabled uploads to the workshop. That's why you couldn't show the pics. They'll work now.

Many Thanks, B-Dave. So come on all you, used to have a cage then got wise - What is it????? Help!!

i'm 99% sure its a CBX, going by the front wheel and exhaust, footrest plates, and the lack of a fin on the tail piece
the fairing looks like a after market one, on a CBX the starter is visable on the right hand side on a CB the starter is under a cover, CBX the grab rail is a square thing with the indicators bolted to it, the seat has latches, you have to unbolt the CB's seat, and the CBX is a mono shock!
it be easier with a piccie from the side, but i'm sure its a cbx grin.gif

Thanks woodz, thought the fairing might be after-market too. Will go for the CBX! Now I can start buying parts. Forgive the oil stain in piccie, meant to brush it out. Another pic when project is completed, but expect a few questions on the way.
Cheers, buttrock.gif

Cheers Imageica. Now for the fun, complete strip down, repair chassis (some heavy rust), engine rebuild, and play with the wiring. Not to mention new tyres, possibly cans then dust off the leathers...Can't wait!!

Easy way to tell if its a CBX.

Start the engine and feel if the frame downtubes get warm.  If yes it is a CBX as the oil was carried in the frame on this machine.  If memory serves CBX formed part of the chassis number.

didn't the triumph bonne's have frames like that too?

its the only honda i can remember, my mate crashed his CBX and i picked it up from the recovery place, it pee'd oil all over me and was quite shocked to see the oil feed from the oil cooler coming from the frame! he's had his 3 years and apart from a starter clutch it didn't need its been trouble free, fairing bits are hard to find.(a dowel was missing inside the starter, so the reduction gear was spinning inside the starter case Oo1.gif )

laughcont.gif Excellent! Can't check engine at the moment - it cranks but does not fire veryangry.gif but oil pipes do indeed feed through chassis. Will inspect tappets very closely prior to firing up...will keep you posted and thanks for the tips, any other's are very welcome!!!!!!!!! bowdown.gif
