awhile ago i fitted a ciggy socket under the seat of the bike, and it works a treat. thing is i would like to connect my Auto com again, but i dont want to wire it back into the system.so i was thinkin of adapting the ciggy socket wireing ..takin off the socket and replacing it with some sort of male or female ends and then doing the same with any accessories i have, so obviously it would have to be a weather proof connection (maybe somesort of snap lock )but also easily disconectable so other acessories can be pluged in with ease...so any ideas on what types of connections are suitable for this?

Have a hunt for the battery optimiser plug and socket sets... they come with sleves for covering when not in use...

Otherwise the connectors used for cars...

erm...

hold on...

ah...

here we are...

The black connector is the waterproof one, the white connectors are the battery optimiser style connectors.

As for where to get them and what they are called... no idea... but they sell them in Halfords and other no-so-good chav add-on car places!
The only info I can find is that they are 18AWG, connector 2 conductor (USA site)

Sorry if it's no help, but you know what I am Like Chilli! lbhh.gif

a ciggy plug on the autocom wiring?

then again the type of plug connector as shown by mr taz are very good, Ford used them for decades on exposed wiring

I thought about that mate, but i want to eliminate the takin the seat on and off part, cos thats the biggest bugbare....i like the connectors Taz has pointed out( has his uses after all) so i'll go source them tomorrow

One assumes your ciggy socket is attached to a switched live rather than direct to the battery. Autocom suggest not connecting direct to the battery otherwise the unit will be always on. They do however have a kit that includes a relay (no reason why you can't source your own relay of course) that allows direct connection with the relay being operated by a switched live.

Yep mate, when i put the auto com in the 1st time it was linked up to the rear light..but the thing now is i have other things that i want to run from the bike..but not continualy...phone charger, airbed pump..and stuff like that, but as i said ..ciggy socket is under the seat, so its no good when its rainin

In that case have a look here Powerlet. Not the cheapest but bound to have something you can combine to get what you need. I've got power into my tank bag using their kit and one of their waterproof sockets. In the tank bag I can charge the phone and power my minidisc which are both then linked into the autocom.

the one that fits to the tankbag is idea.....how did you run the wires then mate, did you run them under the tank?
Ian
Ah the FJR is a bit different as the battery is under the right side fairing rather than under the seat so a socket in the fairing and one of their cables from the socket to the tankbag for me. Did however mean I had to run the earth for the autocom under the side of the tank to the battery as that sits under the seat permanently. The socket is permanently live rather than switched live so I can connect the optimate through it though.

Thanks for that Ian, you certainly got me thinking of ways to get the job done grin.gif

another option would be an audio socket like these:
user posted image but a surface mount for the socket maybe on the clocks
we used to use them as charging points and glow start on RC cars and planes, they aren't water proof but you can get little rubber caps to cover it with
