My annual insurance for a Group 4 125cc bike with 1 year's no claims and a 25 year old driver living in KT22 8SH is £206 with Highway Insurance.

I called them today to find out what the difference would be if I was to move in with my other half... SW19 3NW.

£195.08 additional if it's kept in communal front yard because it's effectively an extension of a main road and everyone in the 3 flat building has access to it.

So I asked them what the difference would be if it was kept out of sight in a private, locked back yard with access only to the single flat...

£195.08 on top of the normal insurance - No difference what so ever.

That's almost DOUBLE my insurance because of the postcode, it's ludicrous... It's the kind of thing that makes people keep their vehicle registered at their old address even if they move...

"So how much for keeping it on a pikey estate with no locks? Ok and if it's in Scotland Yard? The same? Ok thanks..."

Yep, insurance often seems to knee people in the nuts. nod.gif I have dearer insurance that some people with modern sportsbikes, who have less no claims. The only difference that I can see is that I don't keep it inside. I do keep it under my bedroom window on a gravel path, I have a dog that barks like mad, if anything comes near and two locks. I've never had the bike touched, since owning the fecker. The guy a couple of doors away has also never had any problems and he keeps his at the front of the house.

All that doesn't count though. verysad.gif

i keep mine on the drive behind the cage.
chain round the sprocket, swing arm and frame which is all attached to a big grizzly bear i found in the woods. eyebrow.gif

luckily it's not been touched so far.

watch some young scally try and have away with the fecker tonight now i've tempted fate. cry.gif

I only took 3rd party insurance on it cos the excess was so fecking high tpft it didn't seem worth the extra.

Is anyone a member of the AA (no not alcoholics anon) I'm currently scouting around for insurance quotes at the moment and was getting pretty much the same as i have now. My present insurance. third party only and no no claims bonus (passed my test last september) is £189, to up this to TPFF in December with one years no claim, £190. Not bad i thought only a pound in it and the extra cover to boot. Then i thought, hang on, i'll try the AA as i'm a menber and was pleasantly surprised at the qoute they gave me, £120 third party only and £147 TPFF not bad eh ?

i tryed an online firm, first choice, baring in mind i'm a old git....third party FT £78, but my local insurance agent wants £169 sniffle.gif

a friend of ours spent an hour on the fone because his insurance agent claims a motorcycle kept inside a house isn't
anymore safer than a bike left in the street, they wouldn't even give it stored on a driveway status! he spent an hour answering "what if" questions, most of which the answer was.." its a tiled floor it will wash!"he didn't win, crazy thing is storing a bike inside our homes could make household insurance void if there was a fire veryangry.gif

That's the second time I've heard of the AA being highly recommended. I think its zombie, who also swears by them. I'm with Carol Nash but I think I'll check them out the next time my renewal comes around.

I was insured with the aa but they annoyed me when i bought the latest zed. It sounds complex but it isnt. What happened was that I phoned before i bought the new zed and asked how much diff it would make to my policy, they said none, just buy the bike and give us the details and we'll transfer the policy from the sprint. So i did buy it, and i did phone them.
Sorry, they said, you are insured through equity red star who will not insure your zed unless you fit thatcham one alarm immobiliser. Eh? i asked. How come there was no prob with the last zed? Its equity red star, theyexplained, they simply wont cover your bike without thatcham one alarm immobiliser. Feck it then cancel the policy and ill ring round.
Five minutes later i was insured with carole nash for more or less the same premium. So then the certificate turned up and guess who the fecking iinsurer were? You got it, equity red star.

Now more cynical folk than me would suggest a collusion between some brokers and the couple of big companies ( meta, datatool etc) to force there customers into purchasing expensive alarm systems that offer no more protection than a thick jumper in a nuclear explosion.
womble
you mean a thick jumper is no good as protection against a nuke strike ?

my bike is insured with carol nash.
When i phoned them up I got all the normal questions the one that got me went like this.

is the bike kept over night in a garage

no it is a lot safer than that.

Sorry how is that then sir where do you keep it.

in my back garden

we dont class that as safer than a garage sir

ok to get into a garage at the most you will have to go through 2 locks & maybe a squeaky door.

my garden is surrounded by a 8 foot high brick wall, sercurity lighing, CCTV
& the gate is quarter inch steel plate bolted into the the wall.

The bike is locked to a ground anchor inside a locked 6 foot cage.
running around outside the cage is 6 dobbermans & 2 staffordshire bull terriers

now which do you think would be safer my garden or a garage.

his answer

does it have a alarm fitted sir

Blimey Womble, i think it would be easier to get into Buck House than it would your garden, i hear MI5 are looking for new security ideas, perhaps we should give em your phone number laughcont.gif laughcont.gif laughcont.gif
bikerdave
Yep, there's no dodgy comedians with dresses and beards hanging around Wombles' house. laughcont.gif

Womble, you can look after my bike any time. bowdown.gif

Womble, that's too many dogs... wwww.gif

I just received my renewal notice from Bennets (didn't know I was with them actually, these things are usually a mystery to me to be honest as Mrs. B deal with that eyebrow.gif ) with a £225 quote on it... but they can now do it for £175 if I call in the next day or so...

Interestingly, I thought I'd taken TPFT.... err, no. It's fully comp actually cool2.gif

Still, that's the beauty of living in darkest Zomerset... the crims aren't bright enough to ride a bike grin.gif (I hope)
