I was having a look on the mag website today and I came accross this.

http://www.mag-uk.org/articles/2003/survey...2003-05-28.html

It's interesting to see how peoples attitudes towards the importance of security changed once they'd had a bike stolen. To go from using security as a deterent to using it for saving on insurance premiums as it'll get stolen whether its secured or not, and if they want it badly enough.

I used to fit alarms, cars and bikes heres a few tips, the manufactures told us:

A flashing light will put off opportunist thieves, and is the most effective cheap alternative to an alarm
Never fit the alarm manufactures stickers, they give a pro a head start in getting round the alarm
A pro will spend about 4 minutes trying to get the bike
A pro will set off an alarm then start cursing and removing panels to give the impression its his bike
Make sure if the alarm flashes the indictors that circuit is fused, thieves short out the flasher to blow the alarm

If anyone needs electrical help I’m a auto electrician, , I’m not that hot on the newer bikes but may be some help grin.gif

woodz,bit of advice m8.
NEVER volunteer anything to this lot, i casually mentioned i used to paint bikes & am a DSA Instructor.
I now run DEVILPAINT full time-ish & work the other 2 days as an Instructor.
its a slippery slope i tell you.
i've got a (long term) trike project in the making & ima's shoehorning a 400 into the hole the 250 used to live in, expect some serious questions later smile1.gif

lol, oh well i've done it now!

i,ve done a few trikes, rewires, 2 VW based ones, and a very nasty fiat engined one

also i had a KL200 with a gs400 engine in it, it never saw the light of day, when we where wielding the frame we found a nasty crack near the monoshock mounting so it was broken for spare. i'll ask the guy i sold the engines to, he still might have them, there was a 400 and a 425
but if i remember right the GSX250 pickups will fit a GS engine, bit of useless info... there is different types of alternators, ie different amounts of windings, so the stators and rotors are matched, mix them up and they don't work, find a spare regulator rectifier gs's eat them! superdream ones fit, lol superdream ones fit nearly everything!
ima
heres one for you then woodz old chap, will the alternator from a gsx250 fit a gsx400? the 400 ones effed but the 250's in good nick i know it puts out about 5 volts less than the 400 but i didn't wanna start farting about changing all the reg/rec units too.

I've got 2 complete engines so i'm not adverse to cannibalism (smacks lips)

thankee kindly bowdown.gif

suzuki alternators do interchange, but some have a different amount of winding, if they look the same, and the same amount of segments it'll be fine, if not change the stator and the rotor, so they match (if the gsx on will fit)
ima
Thanx woodz it's as i suspected let's just hope all the holes line up then laughcont.gif

rolleyes.gif omg imageica, you got me at it now..... there i was pulling the wifes CBX to bits and this imaged flash thro my tiny mind, pushing out all logic and common sense(which wasn't hard) a TZR/RGV thumper! it has been done but with a DR650 engine in a TZR, and i kno the man who built it laughcont.gif
devilpaint i might be needing your services too
