As you are aware I diddn't have to take a CBT test back in the 1960s and the Mrs has got the urge to sit hers and take up riding but wants to go the correct route to her final test.

So my question is how does she go about it and is there any web page she can read up on as to the training, thanks for any info..

PS Ive just found Motag training site but any info welcomed Cheers plug..

Hey plug!

Dunno if this is any help but I did my CBT with Genesis ( http://www.genesisridertraining.com/ ).
My day consisted of getting a lift down to the testing centre that morning ready to do the CBT. When I arrived my bike was just being delivered as I'd asked for it to be delivered there as it was bought new.
At 9:00 me and 3 other guys went upstairs to the main centre and had a coffee and chatted to the instructors. We then went through laws, road signs, road riding positions, alertness, theory stuff, pics of hazards to point out problems with and a few mock scenarios and questioned about what we think should be done in them. This went on until lunchtime when we had lunch in the centre and then moved outside with radio reciever kits to be communictaed to by the instructor.

Outside we were shown around our bikes to find everything we'd need to find someday, e.g. petrol cap, oil dipstick, oil filler, brake fluid levels etc. We were also run through various do's and don't with bikes, e.g. sitting on the bike when it's on it's centre-stand etc.

After we'd thoughrily gone through everything we were moved out to the airstrip where basic training happens as they own part of the Brooklands Airfield so you don't have to go out on the roads straight away.
Once out on the strip we were run through all the manouvers needed from emergency stops to hill-starts to turns and roundabouts. This went on until about 4;00 - 4:30pm and then we were taken out onto the main road in 2's to practice what was learned in a real situation. At around 5:00pm we were brought back to the centre where we were told how we did, what we need to improve on and to collect our certificates etc.

I then rode back home from the centre all excited but apprehensive about passing and being by myself.

Any help mate?

DP's the man to ask but as far as I know she will have to take a written theory test ( not if she has a full car licence) then do a cbt ( maybe a full day for anywhere up to a ton or half day from about fifty squid). Pass that and then go for the das if she wants to drive a large bike or any of the other licences for bikes of lower ccs and power to weights but im not too hot on them. The cbt is pretty good with some car park work round cones and then some road work folloed by some questions and a briefing by the instructor giving advice on lots of usefuill things relaring to bike riding and some words of caution about getting cocky. The same school would be happy to advise on wether or not to take the das immediately or get some experience first and they will certainly be happy to arrange further traing and subsequent test.

Best of luck to me old mum and more female bikers is good for the soul i tell ya.

If she needs to do the theory test she can actually do this after the CBT.

yep 1st thing mrs plug needs is her cbt, for that she can ride any 125(geared or otherwise) for 2 years then she has to renew the cbt certificate(I.E. go through it all again) or go the direct access route & pass her test on a 125 or go for the full test on a bigger bike.if she does the cbt then rides around on her 125 for a while to get the feel of it, she can decide what to do next-she can take the test on her 125, but will be restricted to a machine of 33bhp for 2 years, then can go ballistic on the banana.
the cbt is a day thing, comprising of 5 parts
A. s intro & saftey gear lecture
B. intro to the bike/scooter
C. practical yard work
D. road safety lecture.
E. 2 hour roadwork.
she should do it on a school bike/scooter-if she does drop it, or hates the whole idea, she can walk away.BTW Plug, you cannot ride pillion with the missus these days, any one wishing to carry passengers must pass their test 1st.
I'm a bit concerned about black O and his 1/2 hour or hour road work, the DSA insist on at least 2 hours roadwork-not including any stops for student breaks/instructors valium shots etc. so if you go out at 4-4.30 & have 10 mins break half way thruogh, you shouldnt be getting back until at least 6.10/6.40-ish.

Doh! My bad, I have a sh!te memory and my CBT was a year and a half ago so although I'm sure about what we went through and learned etc I may have screwed up on the timing. It "felt" like we were out for an hour or so but then again time flies when you're concentrating so it was probably 2 hours. sniffle.gif

NEway whatcha worried about? I have a year's no-claims (one non-fault accident where someone flew out from a side road between parked cars) which kinda says to me I'm ok on the road :P

Be off with you. hehe

No seriously cheers for the concern but it's just me being dozey with remembering timing from a year and a half ago. :P

Just thought i'd ask a quick question about the theory test, i've had my full car licence for 15 years and i had to take it before i could do my DAS, has it all changed again ? Only my hubby is about to book his DAS (CBT to test, brave lad)

Ye gods answers from every where, thanks alot everyone, the mrs is getting excited eyebrow.gif well she used to,, so it looks like me shelling out fer a bike then but the BANNANA is OUT full stop even if she gets through everything well ok then "maybe"...

yep, its all going to get harder, so best "get it over with" now.
the practical "hazard avoidance" is coming in next year sometime-although how the're going to set that up god only knows.

I thought I read that all the most senior instructors were to be forced to ride around wearing a blind fold in the middle of the students... laughcont.gif

That's my suggestion anyhoo.... eyebrow.gif

I do beleive suki sue is going to do her cbt, i think the trip to squires and our jaunt to carnaby has finally swayed her towards getting a bike.

i have to say i had a facsination for the thing(the C1) & had a play around the practise yard the other week,i can see why bmw produced it, but its going out of production, due to lack of sales i suspect-dunno about elsewhere but it aint sold many up here.it was quite nimble on the yard & it has a radio-or speakers at least, but not something i would choose to ride-for a start you have to have the twin seatbelts fastened b4 it will move off-an eerie experience wwww.gif
bikerdave
I wouldn't mind a go of one of them. They look pretty weird but just so I could say I'd done it, sort of thing. buttrock.gif

If they're giving it away i'll have it, got a 250 engine going begging, might make an interesting mini chop. laughcont.gif laughcont.gif
