Mr Brownstone
So I have a few questions:

1. Went to clean the baffle as I had a carbon situation last week, spent 10 minutes trying to find the baffle which wasnt there. lbhh.gif Would not having a baffle effect the back pressure on a two stroke?

2. I just fitted and had to get a bigger bore and piston for the bike. Now The bore and piston is exactly the same as the DT80mx. Now I got two choices, should I set the bikes settings to the DT50mx or to the DT80mx to compensate for the bigger bore and piston.

I am thinking bigger piston and bore means more space to fill?

3. How many miles should i wear in the piston for? I been doing about 35 top gear. Extremely dissapointing when the smaller bore did 45-50? First time wearing in a new piston and bore so can someone please explain the whole situation.

Thanks.
Ian
I'd get rid of the DT80 bore and get yourself a DT50 bore and piston, then it doesn't become an issue and you will not be riding outside the terms of your licence and therefore with no insurance which you will be at the moment.
Mr Brownstone
in responce, the bore is the smallest one There was on offer, which didnt ask for a stupid amount of 150 pound from the local bike shop. This was the smallest they had off wemoto.

The standard dt50 bore was 40mm and this New bore is 49mm. (same as dt80) But on both sides of the bore it says 49cc so No one could tell, I am not a teenage crisis on a 50, I see the DT as a means to a end when I can get the bigger licence.

is it an after market exhaust/silencer? an original would work better with a baffle, and aftermarket one probably has a baffle of some sort but not removable

i could stand on my soap box and preach about legalities but i doubt you'll listen lbhh.gif without extensive port work and, the 80 carb its not going to hit DT80 performance, at the moment it could be slower than before a 60cc kit would of been better
a m8 of mine dragged 70+mph out of a fizzie BUT it took him months, plus he had access to lathes, mill etc, and always carried half a bloody engine around with him!
he had a spare set of everything that he tweaked a bit at a time, tried it on the bike if it got better he modded his good set, he even built an expansion chamber, wasn't pretty but it worked, his was only on a 60 bore kit, and a YB100 carb (both are disc valve not reed)
to get the 80 to work, you'll need to get friendly with someone with a machine shop and find a good tuning book, the trick is small steps, hacking out big lumps of ports just doesn't work!

you do need to run it in, ok it sucks but the bores tend to be very rough and needs time to bed in
Mr Brownstone
tahnks for the info woodsz, lol I dont wanna tune and "pimp my ride" its only a 50 regardless, not owrth the hassle or money :P

When will I know when the bike starts getting back upto speed, e.g it slow as a turtoise I can only hope that will get better?

p.s its standard so i will get a baffle. lol

250 miles would about do it, just build the speed up gradually.. it'll run like crap for a while as oil will build up in the crankcase and zorst, so it while feel a bit woolie and not want to rev.. plus a nice smoke screen
lbhh.gif my old kh left a 6 mile one up the A66 near us, it was just to say dispersing on the way back rolleyes.gif

rather than going for all out speed get it to be happy reving at a decent usable speed, or get it to reach a decent speed quickly rather than it wringing its neck to get it to creep to a high speed, a smaller front sprocket while make it accelrate faster but will be slower top end, but will hit that new top speed every time
small two stokes setting up is a lot of trial and error, most of mine stayed standard, but its not to hard to get them user friendly, just time

From experience, you will know when it's ready for you to ask a bit more - cos one day it will jusat ask for it!

Was only a little over 100 miles on my RXS but then I'd had a bit of experience and I coaxed it with a little more now and then. The secret is just not to ask too much of it in each gear, but don't stick to a blanket 35.

Ahh the joys of faffing with 2 strokes this takes me back a few years, listen to woodz says mr B he's about bang on.
My experineces with strokers is limited to 250 and 350 twins, the x7 i had used to be stripped down more often than it ran but it taught me a lot.
