Cheddies took my 125 over to Ealing yesterday and picked me up from Waterloo on the way back. We we're two up on my bike and we get pulled over by City Police.
Cheddies tells me this is something that happened to him a lot when he was riding a 125 but it's really worried me. I have 6 points in my license (speeding) and I know they run a check on your license when they stop you. edit: it's ok I have six points because I've had a full (car) license for four years - I was meaning six points would make me more vulnreble to harsher treatment.
I don't want to get 'done' on a technicality because I need my license for my work (I'm a drugs worker).
Is it likley I am going to get pulled over a lot on a 125 i.e. propotionally more when compared to a 'proper' bike? Should I just get over myself and do my test?
I can't be doing with the police. I work with them day to day as it is and I don't have a lot of respect for people who pull you over because they think you're an easy target... "someone matching your description" indeed.
This is a bit of a ramble... sorry, I just don't want to get shafted.

.
Is this your only licence. If it is then you are driving without a valid licence and Insurance if you passed your test less than 2 yrs ago.
This only applies if it is your first test, ie you already hold a car licence for more than 2 yrs. Does this make sense.
If so, how can it be a technicality, and to be riding to police stations like this is frankly taking the pee, and just think about what would happen/ how you would feel if you had an accident.
If not then what are you concerned about, is the bike roadworthy?
bite the bullet and get your test passed, then no worries.

I've had a full car license for four years. I did my CBT last April along with my bike theory so the points are perfectly ok on my license.
The bike it completely road worthy I just don't like arrisy coppers pulling me over :-(
I think the 'technicality' aspect comes from the adrenalin which runs through me when I see a copper. If there's a police man in my building it generally means there's something kicking off so I have an animal inside me :-P And I don't want to do something silly like take my helmet off before I'm off the bike or not stop properly if I do get pulled over, them run a check on my license and decide to screw me because having 6 points on your license makes you look like a rogue.
I was only worried because Ed's made me think they like to pull 125s and I'm used to seeing people get screwed over :-(

If your license, insurance, MOT etc are in check and you don't do anything wrong then they can't do anything.. they can pull you over as much as you want...
I wouldn't worry about it.. that's like not wanting to cross roads because you might get knocked over by a bus.. just enjoy your riding

Don't ever mention that if you get stopped by the plod. (A lot of rank and file plod are somewhat ambivalent about drugs workers).

Mrs,
The number of points on your licence generally has no bearing on what course of action is taken if you are stopped for an offence. In fact these rarely even come into play unless checks on your licence are done in detail, carrying just your photocard should mean even these don't need to be completed. Now you might not like being stopped but its an essential tool in dealing with crime and to take your initial phrase - you matched the description... well that should sum it nicely these aren't dreamed up to inconvience people. In answer to a question tho, 125's less likely to be stopped certainly in my experience than a sports bike.
Best wishes,
Mike

I would agree that you may be more likely to be pulled two-up on a 125, but when riding solo and within the law I think it would be highly unlikely that you would be pulled, particularly with no L plates and good road positioning / observation.

I think we got pulled because:
a) we were 2 up on a 125
b) it was a 125 without l plates
c) it was in the city (as in, the financial district), after pub kickout - so the police were bored
i guess they just thought i would be on a provisional, supposed to have L's, riding illegally two up, and when i wasnt the guy checked the bike over fine tooth comb stylee - checked tax/who its registered to/when i bought it and when they found nothing wrong, decided that they should send us on our way with nothing - just a pink slip saying "you were pulled" - though he did fill in my race classification without asking me what I class myself as.
oh, and what does PROP mean after build? - apparently I am 6'2" - shaved head - PROP build.
i think the other reason MrsC was annoyed at the police was because the one guy (the one who spoke first, and did all the checks) was really rude to her as we stopped - she thought we had been pulled because the bag she had on was obsuring the rear light (it wasnt and we diddnt) and asked the guy why we were pulled, and he just said, in the snottyest tone of voice you have ever heared "ill TALK to the DRIVER" - understandable that he wanted to talk to me, but did he have to be so rude?
anyway ...
*edit*
Prop, i assume, could be proportional..

The police will frequently pull over a 125 being ridden without 'L' plates because most, but not all, people who pass their test go on to bigger bikes. They will also pull over 125's that are 2 up because of similar reasons. As has been said, if you are legal don't worry about it, your local police will soon recognise you and provided you do nothing to draw attention to yourself will probably not bother you.

Yeah i wouldn't worry about it... i've been pulled over a couple of times by the plod, admitedly i may have been going a tad fast on the motorway and again a little fast on the collector road (i'm talking +10 mph btw

) but as long as you pull over calmly, remove your helmet (as a sign of respect) and generally treat whoever it is like they are actually human (i.e. be polite and friendly) they normally turn out to be pretty nice peeps... they are after all just doing a job.
I wouldn't worry to much MrsC, if your not doing anything naughty, all you'll end up with is a bit of a chat and you'll be on your way in no time.

What Ancient said. Two people on a 125, probably means they're at it. Not all the time but more often than not. It's been that way as far as I can remember. The last time I was stopped in a car or bike must be around eight years ago.
