Who needs main stealers.....

My new baby, the Firestorm started to make a bit of a rattley sound from the rear cylinder. Now these bikes arer known for their chocolate cam chain tensioners (CCT's), so i am getting a bit worried.

Spoke to Ancientd bowdown.gif who gave me some good advice, but to replace the tensioners was 50 quid each, and i need to use the bike for a course in Bournemouth on Mon.

So, i contact a guy throguh the Firestorm forum who supplies replacement springs (these are what fail on the CCT), but this is on Thurs. I explain my predicament to him, and he goes, 'Don't worry, i'll post a pair off first class so you will have em Saturday, you just send me the money when you can'. What a guy........and lo and behold postman drops em through the letterbox Sat morning.......

So today,

I strip the bike down, tank off, airbox and camshaft covers. Check all the timing is ok (so as not to load the camchain), take off the tensioners, overhaul them and replace the springs. Good job i did as the rear spring was mullered.

Put it all back together. Turn it over by hand first to make sure nothing seizes...Ok so far... then hit the start button...

Burbles into life and sounds soooooo much better than before. I really do feel a sense of achievment for doing this.....

And to cap it all, got a guy coming over tomorrow who wants my Microns, in exchange for his Scorpion High levels, so will be fitting them in the morning.

Will post some piccies when i have them up and running......

It was good of the guy to send the springs before he'd received the payment bowdown.gif
Did you ever go to Barrie Coopers place in Burnham? I went in there for a speedo cable for a bike and there was a few it could have been. He gave me the cable he thought it was and told me to take it home and come back and pay him if it fitted.
It's seriously satisfying to fix something yourself, especially if it saves you money.

Already sent him a very nice thank you email as a thank you never goes amiss.

Plus, the guy came down today with the High level Scorpions, so put my Microns on his Storm and put the Scorpions on mie.

What do you all reckon?

Looks really slick! I've had both microns and scorpions before, the scorpion on my Fazer 6 sounded ruuuuuuuuude, but a Scorpion on my current CBR6F was a bit wooly, so I replaced with a Micron which is ph-at and it's a high level so looks better, though I did lose my pillion pegs and centre stand. tounge1.gif

Shame about the colour :p
