Full Version: Textile Jacket Cleaning ?

I have had this jacket for a while now, but hadn't used it to much until I got my own little 125 a few months back.As you can imagine it's got filthy and I want to clean it , but how ?
It has thick foam shoulder, knee, and back protection, which I can't seem to see how to remove(its an RK jacket, and I can't find a web site for them).
The two ways I can see to clean it are the normal washing machine, but will it bugger up the foam protection and how many weeks will it take to dry lbhh.gif .Or do I take it to a dry cleaners and pay an arm and a leg for it ?
If you lot can think, or know another way , then please let me know.Last but not least, this is my only jacket, so a quick solution would be nice thumbsup2.gif .

look closer at yer jacket? It very probably has velcro pockets inside the sleeves/in the back of the jacket.
If it doesn't then I'd hand wash it and let it drip dry - in this heat it will only take a day or so smile1.gif

Hey Faze, who posted the last thread on this?? Wasn't that long ago either.
Fazerstun
aye but it had nothing about unremovable armour - least I don't think so.
Fecked if I know, I've had 4 pints of Holsten laughcont.gif
Didn't the thread end up about horses anyway? wwww.gif

maybe hamsters?

Getting back on topic, I have had a further and proper look at my jacket, and the armour can be removed blush21.gif .
So , the same question, should I hand, machine or dry clean my jacket ?

Also, can someone PLEASE point me in the direction of a web site for RK, as I have tried to search for a site with no success at all.

machine wash (not the armour) then a liberal dose of Nikwax (available from any good outdoor shop) then naturally dry on a washing line
RK website?
No

Refering back to the posts in the other thread - I have washed my jacket several times and not re-waterproofed it. A week last Wednesday I got caught in a cloudburst and the streets turned into rivers but my jacket stayed waterproof :-). Make sure the water isn't too hot (30 - 40 degrees max).

The only time I have had to use waterproofer after a wash was on the seat/crutch of my textile trousers where they rub on the seat and break the proofing down and I used a silicone spray called Fabsil just on the relevant parts - result dry bum.

Just taken my jacket out of the washing machine after putting on a cool 30 degree wash, and it looks like new.All I have to do now is get it dry and put a little fabsil on it, when I can get some.
Many thanks to everyone.
