...bought me a new Hagon rear shock for the Bandy which represents 10% of the total price of the bike blush21.gif So, when I sell it I shall mainly be keeping the shock for memories sake!

Now, there is a point (unlike me, I know) to this post. What can I expect? How do I tell that it's better than it was?  :Oo:

If the old shock was bad, then you should notice the difference as soon as you sit on the bandy.
If the back end hops under braking or feels skittish, then soften the spring rate/rebound(if fitted).
Generally you want to go with the softest setings you can-the hard settings are for,
A) Power Rangers,
B) Race track refugees who dont know any better.

The softer the shock the more the rear end stays in contact with the road

If the last shock was shot then i would agree with DP- you'll notie the odds as soon as you ride it.

" motorcyles are unnecesarily unstable..........both wheels need to be in contact with the  ground to retain control of the vehicle..." - that's Royce Creasey that is and he knows a thing or two even though his prototype bikes look like boats!

Its looking at that sort of stuff that has put all this talk of scooters into your head.   Don't you know scooterists are  one of them brainwashing cult things.

Royce Creasey is a genius - his dodgy looking bikes are simply underdeveloped and were always intended as ' concept proving' vehicles that manufacturers could look at and maybe invest in to produce something that didd'nt look like the ark royal.

Without far thinkers like him we are doomed to all ride bikes that look the same. ( so long as they look like ZZR's it won't really matter!)

Those are some seriously weird bikes.. Oo1.gif

But now, the Hagon is here... bugger it's small blush21.gif I was expecting a girt big thing with lights and go faster stripes and sh!t... ah well, better get it fitted then I s'pose.

So, it's the softest settings that I need then DP? That's confusing slighlty?

You see, one of the reasons that I think the shock would improve the bike (apart from the fact that the old one had done 18k and they are notorious apparently for going soft on this bike) in that it "pitches" somewhat when you head into the bends... and I would have though that "stiffening" it up would have helped... or am I talking bollox as usual blush21.gif
devilpaint
The Hagon will be stiffer than a new Suzy shock out of the box,
I would start with the "softest setting" & see how it goes.
I see what you mean about being confused, but a new shock on a soft setting isnt the same as a shagged shock on a harder setting.

Aha, it's clearer now... all I've got to do now is work out how to change the bloody settings   ... might ask the mekanic to do it for me laughcont.gif

Still, looking forward to getting it done... not that it will improve my riding blush21.gif
BlandWit
Well, Bandit back with Haggis fitted... bugger, that's made a difference! Initial impression is, bloody hell that's stiff when going over pot holes and stuff but a quick ride back demonstrated that it's improved the bike no end. Doesn't dive as much (remember, I've had the oil changed in the front forks pending arrival of the adjustable ones) and seems less skittish...

Update to follow when I get a chance to get down some roads I've ridden before to get a comparison. Now, all I have to do is find the manual for the bloody shock so that I can work out how to adjust it meself...
Hilts
They do squeak though don't they  :wink1.gif:

I could see a simple C spanner adjustment when you were here matey. Mind you they can be tight - easy to reduce the spring load, hard to increase, not to mention the awkward access.

Perhaps I should have mentioned this at the time...sorry  :hmm:

No, mate... thanks Oo1.gif Sure I'll work it out! But I am gonna tie something to the fecking spanner this time (previous post refers laughcont.gif ) in case it slips and inserts itself in the bloody thing blush21.gif
Hilts
Ouch!
devilpaint
Did you get a "c" spanner with the shock?
the shock body will have a notched adjusting ring-if you tighten it up you stiffen the shock-if you loosen it then the spring will be under less tension, so softening the ride.

BlandWit
Ah, that's what that thing is then blush21.gif Thought it was used to fit it to the bike laughcont.gif

I've left that (with the old shock) at the garage where they did the bike. Must retrieve both that and the original shock I think! wwww.gif
