I normally get someone else to fit a new chain but I thought I would do my own to keep the costs down. I have a splitter so that was a doddle but how hard is it to rivet the new one with out a riveter. I am going to have to invest in one cos that was just a joke. I finally did it but had to use all kinds of stuff from blocks of wood too G clamps to get the bastard on. There must be any easier way to do it.
Vaanen
so you do actually have it on now? make sure the end of the pin is properly mushroomed cuz if the chain splits at a ton+ it'll have your leg!
i had mine done by some muppet who just used a couple of mallets to mushroom the end off but i wasnt confident in it so i had someone put a new link in and do it properly!

I agree with Vaanen. Be careful to get it right Nick otherwise it could be real dangerous. A rivetting tool is a must.

Going to bite the bullet and spend the 45 quid on a riveter.
Sodom
Halfrauds do a decentish set for about 25 quid I think that includes certain sizes of rivetts..

Also - B&Q do a decent range for around the same price but you have to buy the rivetts separately....

Eh !!!
Mot
First one I did with the ball end of a hammmer (big one) with wooden and metal blocks behind. Most recently I bought a spliter riveter set and that was easier and after 20K still going strong mind you the one with the hammer lasted 25K and I sold it with it on wink1.gif

All I've got to do now is get the tool back from a mate who borrowed it 2 years ago DO NOT LEND YOUR TOOLS OUT !!!

Er, Nick's talking about chain links. Chains don't use pop rivets... lbhh.gif
