Full Version: Bandit losing power and misfiring?

Hi all,

Only been riding a few months but all has been fine so far until the ride today going to work. Riding along fine at 90 then the bike stuttered (this was at constant power) as if the engine was about to cut off. I immediately slowed down and it happened a couple of other times then stopped.

Decided after work to go through town to take it easy before looking into what happened. Before getting to town I had to do a quick stretch on the motorway so decided to see if the same thing happened. Accelerated away and BAM the bike jerked forward then was fine. Rode back at 40 all the way home after that.

Whilst at 40 the bike lost power (revs went to 0) and I heard a few bangs from the back before power came back again. Bike is now back and I'm going to try and get it to the garage tomorrow.

Any ideas what causes this or where I could look first before taking it in? Could it be the spark plugs? I seem to think the engine is hotter than normal and the exhaust is a lot cooler than normal - is this significant?

Thanks for any help - Its a Bandit 600 K2 if that helps

Cheers!
Vaanen
it could be the plugs as you say, have you removed them and looked? its shouldn't be too hard most socket sets have a spark plug socket. the colour and condition of the plugs can also tell you a lot about the condition of the engine (lean/rich fuel mixture, oveheating etc) if its a carb problem then you should be able to tell from the plugs, but it may just be that the plugs are shot. without more info i cant really help any further, although im no expert

hmm this could be a few things, the seal on the exhaust(at the manifold)
a leaky carb boot(between the carb and the engine) the easiest way to check that is spray wd40 on to the boots while its running. if the revs change even slightly then that probly your problem. exhaust seal first then carb boots the plugs or one of the leads from the plugs or a cdi or coils, sounds more mechanical than electrical though
