My girlfriend's always loves bikes but she prefers the naked/cruiser/Harley stylings rather than the Sportsbikes I go for.
She's still deciding whether to get her Direct Access or CBT and hence looking at various bikes along the Cruiser range. She's 5'5" tall with short legs and being female she's looking for a lighter bike than perhaps a guy might.

Any suggestions? e.g. D.A or CBT and what bikes might be suitable? She wanted the Honda VTX1800 we saw at Ryka's yesterday but I pursuaded her out of it thank god... hehe

Yamaha Virago 535 would suit a shorty looking for a cruiser.

Well, CBT for a kick-off certainly.

When I did my CBT there was a girlie who chose the school's SR125 for the course - she got on quite well with that.

Now, unless you help her take her own bike to the DAS school, or if you have a trailer, or a personal DAS trainer, she's going to be stuck on the school's GS500 or ER5. So it's likely she's going to have little or no choice when it comes to the bike for the DAS. She'll at least have some idea of what a lightweight commuter style bike feels like.

So my recommendation is crack on with the tests and worry about the bike when you pass.

Good luck and have fun sitting on bikes in showrooms in the meantime...

your girl has got to do the cbt b4 das anyway-it prolly will be a cg honda or a sr yam-my advice(puts Instructor hat on) is do the cbt, do the theory then go for das-ask if the school has a low seat for her.if its a gs 500 then the pegs are higher & the bars are wider than the honda cb 500-dont know about the er5 as i've never used them.
once she has her test certificate then go look for a bike-check out ins b4 you buy anything.
the virago 535 will be a good starting point if cruisers are what she likes-plenty about (lots of imports-go for a german one if you do-loads of accessories on them usually)& lots of aftermarket stuff for them.
not something to ride through the winter tho-it'll drop to bits very soon.
