I'm itching to lose my trusty starter-friendly GPZ and get myself something a bit bigger....but may not bother re-taking my test, and just get a new bike restricted for another 18 months.

I'm quite keen on the Thundercat, but there doesn't seem to be that many around in my price range at the moment. I'm looking to spend about 2k on a sports tourer (i.e not a supersports, can't hack the riding postion and prob a bit too feisty for me) - 600cc ish - fully or at least half faired - that can cope with being restricted.

Any ideas? Have only looked at the Cat and the SV so far.

Ooooh, like the look of the ZZR....210kg is scaring me though, I can just about handle the 180 Cat but would feel happier with a lower seat (I'm 5'3"). GPZ is just 177.

Off to research the Bandit too. TVM!!!

I would recommend either the ZZR600 (e models) or the Bandit 600 (s models)

I previously had a ZZR600..... as pictured and loved it.... enough grunt for a newbie (so to speak) and more than enough speed for most people (160mph !!).... as well as being comfortable for long distance tours... (I used mine for 4 annual tours all over the UK, and never found fault with it....) Although the bike looks deceptively swept down at the bars, you are remarkably comfortable and more upright than you appreciate...

I now have a Bandit 650s..... and love it just as much....I've only had it 6 months, and haven't done any mileage on it, but I am looking forward to giving it a proper test once I organise another UK tour.....
