Full Version: ticking noise after rebuild

My fz6 had a recent engine strip and rebuild after developing a bottom end rattle (not good) the chap at the dealers said it was a worn primary gear (not so sure myself). anyway, put back together and sounds ok, ride away happy. However, i have noticed a ticking noise now coming from the engine, there has always been a bit of valve clatter (yam engine) but now this is much louder! how is it possible for the valve clearances to change so much after a rebuild? im thinkin either they have "adjusted them out of adjustment" so to speak of.......im suspicious that they may have put the cams on back to front (exhaust on inlet & vice versa) i know this sounds incredible but surley it is possible? other than that it may be something else entirely!

i have heard that it is good to hear some noise as no noise means too tight (very bad) so is it possible that they were tight before and now they are adjusted correctly?

also i have heard that on shim type valves the clearance gets smaller with use, can someone explain this to me as i cannot visualise it! thnx

sorry for the protracted rant!

It might be a blowing exhaust...??

If it hasn't sealed at the header It can sound like a ticking noise..difficult to narrow it down sometimes with all the other clatter going on mad1.gif
