Full Version: Got the wrong tires fitted today

A Couple of you might remember that a while back i asked for tyre recommendations and basically everyone told me to get BT020s fitted.

Now, due to a shortage, the guy led me to believe that i was getting an azaro on the front and a bridgestone BT020 on the back... and also told me that they were compatible

Now, i've just got the garage phone up for some money and they mentioned that they'd put azaro's on BOTH front and back... after talking to the original guy, he told me that he meant that i was getting azaro's both front and back, and he meant that the azaro's were the Avon equivilent of Bridgestone BT020's!

What a cock up... now seeing as he can't get me bridgestones because of a shortage of front BT020's, i'm stuck with the Avon azaro's on my bike that i know nothing about - although he says they're a great tire?

Anyone know anything about azaros and if they are either bad or good? They're fitted now with payment taken, but either way i wouldn't mind knowing sniffle.gif

edit: They're Avon Azaro ST
StevePJ
What a load of bull. I have just had an 020 fitted to my front, and there were plenty of fronts and rears.

However, i beleive Azaro's are ok, but no way would i have an azaro on the fornt and an 020 on the rear. You should have matching pairs.

sorry the off topic..

Steve..where did you get your BT020 from? and how much?
I need to get a front one by the end of the month....

Thanks!

Howevere, their customer service is the worst i have ever know (see my thread ranting about this) and i did have to take it back the next day as when i went out to the bike in the morning it was flat as a witches t!t.

To their credit they dealt with it immediately. Tried to say the valve was dodgy, which i know it wasn't as i had already tested the valve,a dn when it was in their workshop i heard a loud popping noise which usually means they were reseating the tyre.

If you come over, let me know and you can call round and have a coffee. I only live 5 mins away.

Got Bridgestone tyres fitted at TW motorcycles in kidlington near oxford, got them for a good price as well as they sometimes have offers on like buy the rear and get the front free.

however i SUSPECT they overtightened the spindle bolt when putting it back on resulting in my front fork cracking on 1 side at the hole where the spindle goes through. Disclaimer...That though is mere supposition and could have been caused by other factors, so i don't want to put people off using them unless i could confirm it, if i could they would be posted in the dodgy dealers section.

Is this a competition to see how many times we can derail a thread?

In answer to your question G2M the Azaros are fine, I've used them before with no ill effects and decent mileage.
ancientd
Had Azaro's fitted once, hated them, no confidence in the wet, and didn't last as long as the 020's. Would not recommend them to anyone for anything.
Biker835
So opinion is divided on the Azaros then lbhh.gif
snapdragon
G2M you are going to have to find a better bike shop thats awful service, never had them on mine so I can't comment. but not getting you what you wanted and fobbing you off like that is a bad deal.

JP - go to Micheldever
[JP]
Snap...yes, thought about Micheldever but forgot about the name and forgot to ask Ancient yesterday...

Anyway, Ancient reckons I don't need a tyre straight away, so I'll wait for the end of the month.
Girlie_Biker
I agree with anceintd - I had azzaros once - never again! however they did teach me a thing or two about back wheel slides!

Apparantly the latest versions are much better than the old compound I had (so the sales peeps tell me) but I still wouldn't go for them.

Tyre confidence is 80% in your head I think.

Also as said above - don't ever have two different manufacturers' tyres on at the same time no.gif
Finn
I have never used Azaros but there are a couple on a ZZR site that swear by them (Azaro3's ?).

As Girlie_biker says tyres I think have a lot to do with personal opinion and riding style. I'm happy with my bridgestones though!

I believe it is illegal to mix "types" eg cross-ply and radial although I think it dpeends on which way round they are.

However its not reccomended to mix manufacturers as it means you will have different handling characteristics between front and rear which might affect stability etc.
Benguin
I had an Avon on the back and a pirelli on the front when I bought my ZZR.

Got em swapped to Bridgestones as she was like a greased eel braking in the wet.

Can't remember which Avon it was though.
mads
G2M moaned all day today about his tyres lbhh.gif werent you mate?

You can mix makes, but subject to a few rules.
Stick to tyres with similar profiles (some are more triangular than others) and never, ever, have a stickier tyre on the back than you have on the front.
With a Dunlop on the front and an 010 on the back you'll be ok generally, as long as you don't push it too hard in the corners, but watch out in the wet, the 010 is really good in the wet and the dunlop is rubbish, so you're at greater than normal risk of losing the front on a wet road. In the dry you'll have to push fairly hard to get either to let go, but the dunlop takes longer to warm up from cold so take it easy for the first few miles, and if either end does slide it's likely to be the front, not really ideal.
Also, the dunlop is more triangular in section than the 010, so not an ideal choice of mix, but like I say, 99% of the time you won't have a problem, just don't push it too hard in the corners!

I've got dunlops on the VFR800. Great in the dry but as Zimbo said, they will keep you awake in the wet. ooh2.gif

I'm not going to change them at the minute though because they're brand new and I'm too tight for that. wwww.gif When it's time for a new set, I'll be getting 020's.
