Full Version: Re-locating a Datatool Alarm

Can any of you folks help me? I'll try and describe this as best as I can...please bear with me.

I have a Datatool Veto immobiliser/alarm. Currently the alarm box is situated underneath the fuel tank.

Because of the changes I've made underneath there [new battery box, pod filters etc], the alarm will no longer fit!

So...I want to re-locate the alarm box to go underneath the seat instead.

Now please excuse my ropey description...I'm hoping that someone will recognise what's going on here. All the cables and wires are covered in layers of tape, so I'm not entirely sure what's going on myself!

Currently, from the alarm box, there is one wire [or set of wires wrapped in tape] running to the rear of the bike [underneath the seat], where the main fuse box is...the other goes to the front of the bike. So I'm kind of stuck with the alarm box in the middle. Has anyone any experience of how these things are wired? And what will I need to do to relocate it underneath the seat? Is it possible to just cut the wires and solder in some extensions?

normally with alarms you have:
earth
live (fused)
ignition live
2x indicators (normally the same colour and will have fuses)
2x imobilizer (could be more)
LED(2 wires or maybe sleeved)
aerial (black wire from the unit)

my guess would be the first 3 head off to the fuse box, the indicators can be done either front or back, the only thing you can't cut or lenghten is the aerial, but you wouldn't need to

Hi mate, just about to begin, so I thought I'd better check it out with you first if that's OK grin.gif

So...there are 5 wires going off the rear [fuse box], and 8 wires going off to the front.

In order to re-locate the alarm box to the rear of the bike, I will need to extend the length of the 8 wires running to the front.

Of those 8 wires, 2 are for the little red LED on the ignition switch cover. The other six erm, well I'm guessing that some will be connected to the turnsignals, the others I'm not sure.

So is it OK to snip those 8 wires [running to the front], to solder in some extensions?

Cheers mate beer.gif

what colours do you have?
it should be ok, you can extend the led wires np, just make sure they go back the same way
on most alarms orange is indicators, yellow is ignition live, red live, black earth, gray and a white imobilizer
you shouldn't have any problems extending things, just the aeral which is a set lenght
just make sure you cover the joints well so water can't get in

Erm...they're all black Oo1.gif

How do I know which one is the aerial?
NigeC
the aerial will be thinner than the rest.. and the wire should just end most a six inchs to a foot long
i looked at the datatool site and it showed coloured wires but there was a few different versions that never showed the loom... just do one wire at a time then you cant go far wrong happy_fingers.gif
Ford use all fecking brown wires on the factory fitted systems baring in mind the central locking, windows, multi point imobilizer all go thro the damn thing, its a nightmare to work with and all the car earths are brown too .. funny thing is you only need to find two wires to render it useless and bypass the lot lbhh.gif

I'm not sure but I think when I got my datatool alarm fitted all the wires were black. I think they were labelled or something and as he fitted them he removed the labels/marking.

Not that that helps you much
