Hi,
I ve been living in London for almost one year.Since I came, I ve been sufferring from bike-sickness. In fact, my beloved R6 is still in Rome.
I ' ve been always scared of bringing my bike here because I never have had a Bike park where to keep HER.
I neither have a front yard, and my borough is not Chelsea.
Considering that I can't afford a private garage, what do you tip me?How Can I Keep safe my love?
I m living in Stoke-Newigton: nice place, but not completly safe...
verysad.gif Help me!!! I need my bike more than spaghetti of mamma!!! wink1.gif

Talk to your council - they quite often rent garages.

Put an add in loot - perhaps someone has half a garage you can share?

Talk to your neighbours - they might appreciate £30/month for losing a bit of garage space.

A mate of mine live sin S-N - his blade has always been OK there (he doesn't have a garage either).

Failing that buy the biggest baddest chain you can find. Always secure it to something big (lamppost/17tn truck) and use a disc lock (or two) and an alarm.

You might want to buy a bike cover.

Its a lot of fuss but apparently bikes that are under cover attract a LOT less attention.

Read some internet chain reviews, or search for security in this forum lol.

Common sense

1. Good lock and a hefty chain - people can still lift the bike up (had it done to a few mates, living in nice parts of town) so lock it to something solid. If there's another biker nearby consider a mutual locking arrangement.

2. Park in a well exposed spot - don't put it in a dark little corner as a potential thief can work unnoticed

3. Think about an alarm - not much of a deterent but at least you'll hear it if someone walks past and slaps the saddle - classic way of seeing which bikes are alarmed before coming back with a van and a shopping list.

4. Buy a big bike cover, take it outside and rough it up so it looks old, grubby and uncared for - gives the impression that the bike underneath is likely to be some crud covered old thing that no one would want..... first impressions matter in London as there's plenty of bikes and thieves will aim for the easy ones.
