I've been poking around on the interweb and i've seen another  rather nice bike it's a honda vfr400r nc24.
£995 on an 88 plate what do we all  think?
And the insurance is dirt cheap 350 comp with no ncd

The vfr are nice bikes. The only thing I would say, is that a lot of them tend to get canned everywhere. Especially the 400. I lot of folk buy them as a first big bike after passing their test because its easier to insure a 400 conpared to a 600. They're still good bikes and a good one will hold its price. At 15 years old, there's going to be a couple of things needing replaced as well, if they haven't been already. My vfr is a 1990 and I've started to get some problem showing up after a few years of careful ownership.

At the end of the day, it'll come down to the individual bike but I'd advise that someone that knows what they are doing, gives it a good check over before parting with cash.  :buttrock:

sounds like good advice bd.
Snag is the bike is in a dealers in Bournemouth but it does come with 12 months warranty and breakdown cover.

12 months warranty on a 15 year old bike  :O that's virtually unheard of.  Trouble is it'll probably be the dealer's own warranty so it'll mean fagging down to Bournemouth if anything goes wrong (and they are unlikely to pay for transport) unless its an insured warranty which can be supported by another approved dealer.  Its also a long way to go to find its a dog when you get there so unless you know someone you trust to take a look beforehand I'd give it serious thought before setting off.

Id leave it where it is mate.  They are good bikes but that is abit old and probably well tired by now ( shocks and fork internals etc).  A good trick is to put a 'vfr 400's bought for cash' advert in mcn and check out the bikes people ring up with.  If they think you're trade they will accept book price.  Ebay is alright but the bargains are genrally in the several grand range as people seem willing to pay silly money on what should be cheap bikes ( knackered twenty year old hondas  for £2000 etc.)  Have a look on biketrader as you can search by distance.  Always have look and NEVER buy one otherwise ( take it from me!  I have bought some dogs in my time!)

aye!
they are a good bike, infact the hondas are the best handling 400's around.
however its age could as zombie says be a bit of a problem.
i had a 89 slingshot 400, it was absolutley mint and i sold it for 800quid with 12month of each.
the reason i sold it so cheap was because the fork springs were weak (80quid),it shortly needed a back tyre(130quid),front discs were scoured(80quid each+pads) and the exhaust was breaking up inside(there was bits of rusted bafffle dropping out the drainage hole, so theres another few hundred squid).
all these i knew would have to be sorted for the next mot.
the bike was tip top when i sold it, but i knew next year it was gona cost big.
when looking at a bike to buy, some things may seem trivial or not a problem, as theyre easily sorted - like brake discs or tyres.
but when you actualy look at the cost of replacing them(especialy rear shocks)it can be a costly nightmare.
good examples of nc24 fetch well over a grand!!!!!
its up to you matey, if its in good nick, the engine is sound and your prepared to fork out some of ya hard earned green on a few things over the next year or two, then go for it, as i say theyre a good bike, but its gona likely cost ya sooner or later!

Thanx fellas,
I have to admit the mileage down to bournemouth put me off slightly, plus the age of it as well.
