Anybody had one and what do you think of them?
AllyBally
a mate had one for while ,,very capable bike ,depends on ya needs i guess,, had blast on it few times, very agile and nimble bit of kit,,as i said depends on what you need / want it to do and expect of it

I looked after one while a mate was away, only taking it for a run once in a while, not as smooth a feel to the engine as a modern beemer (at the time I couldn't make the comparison) - but I couldn't fault it as a road tool.

i've had a r80, sort of chill out mode bike if you ask me-reliable and easy to do big miles on, i liked mine because you didn't feel like you had to go quick all the time like a lot of modern stuff but they can do the business if you're a committed rider-just ask the police!

Boss (Significant Other) had one - and did a fair few miles on it - I however hated it!... If you come across one with twin plug heads - that was his.

(I came home from a rideout to find him sitting in the garden with the powerdrill and assorted bits of metal made into a jig, merily drilling and tapping holes in the BMW heads, it worked great overall - there wes a noticable, and sudden, reduction in power if you really got it over and the 2nd set of plug caps touched down lbhh.gif )

A colleague of mine had one at about the time I had my R45. Good middleweight all-rounder. The boxer engine used at that time is simple and robust; easy to work on and reliable. If you can pick one up at a reasonable price, it should hold its value well (boxers tend to).

I admit to being highly biased - I love the boxer engine.

The reason I ask, is that I know someone who might be selling one. It's a 1989 model but has sat in the garage for six years and only done 18,000 miles. ooh2.gif

It looks in great condition. I just have to find out how much he'd want for it and if he wants to sell it.

If he does, bite his hand off.
