Full Version: knackered rear shock????????

heres the symptoms:-
when letting off the throttle the back wheel bounces all over the place and makes a hell of a racket as the suspension hits the upper stops.
also if i hit a bump, it rattles like hell hitting the upper stops.
the swing arm bearings are ok and the cush is ok, the chain and sprockets are brand new and inline.
if you push down on the back seat and pump the suspension up and down, theres no damping affect, it just springs straight back up and hits the stops, a sure fire sign of a knackered damper i know!
but can any one here relate it to the back wheel jumping around on deceleration???

cheers rob.

Probably as you slow down, the weight is getting thrown forward. That makes the backend lighter and decompresses the shock a little. With so little weight on it, every little bump will kick the wheel off the ground, which is why it jumps about.

aye! thats whats happening.
i know the early zxr have a bit of a reputation for nasty rear shock, but they cant be this bad surely.
ive altered the preload to see if it makes any difference, but its like zebedy now!
the longer it goes, the bouncier it gets!
definatley no damping there at all.
0-100 in nowt and then another mile to slow down:  :sniffle:
im hoping i can get it serviced, but if not its an expensive add on for what was a damn cheap bike!

I'll keep a look out for any shocks for sale.

You might be able to get one from a breakers.
