Full Version: Air chuck for presta valve

I'm emailing this forum from the US of A.
I'm looking for an air chuck for my air compressor that fits a presta valve. I can't find one in the US. In the US we have an adapter we put over the Presta valve that converts it to a Schraeder valve and then we use the air chuck. Do you guys have Schraeder vavles over there on your tires? or Dunlap valves on your tires? All the bike shops here use the adapter to fill up the bike tires. When we're filling from home, we use a floor pump with a presta head on the hose. All our car tires use Schraeder valves. We have several large tool companies here, SnapOn, MAC Tools, and Matco. None of them carry an air chuck for a presta valve. I didn't know if these companies sold one in England. I've searched the internet to no avail. Can anyone help me locate one?

Never heard of them. Any chance of a picture? Maybe they go by a different name over here.

The tyre (Tire) grin.gif valves on UK bikes are identical to US valves. Filling a tyre here uses the exact same head as in the US. If I am missing the point here PM me as I bought my R6 in the States.

If I remember from my cycling days a presta valve is thinner than you normal bike/car valve and has a small screw down top to it to act as a saftey /high pressure thing as push bike tyres can go up to 90PSI ooh2.gif

That's all I know so have been of no help really what so ever eekout.gif

These people Chain Reaction Cycles may have what you are looking for, they definitely have Presta valves and heads that convert floor pumps to Presta/Schraeder.

I don't know what a push iron is.

I've looked on the sites mentioned and still can't find it.

Some may be confused by the terminology "air chuck". I have an air compressor in my garage, attached to my house. It's about a 2 1/2 hp 120psi compressor. There's a hose coming from the compressor. At the end of the hose there is a quick change adapter. You can attach various tools to the end of the air hose, drills, ratchets, sanders, impact gun, air gun blow nozzle. One of the attachments is an air chuck. It's a little round thing that you put on the valve of the tyre to blow it up. Of course it's attached to the hose. When you press it down on the tyre valve, air comes out and fills up the tyre. The air chuck that I have fills up only tires with Schraeder valves which are your normal car tire valve. Here in the states most bikes have Schraeder valves except for your better road bikes and better mountain bike. I am looking for an air chuck that fits Presta valves without using the adapter to convert the presta valve to a schraeder valve.

You are talking push irons. A push iron is a slang word for a bicycle. I think I know what you mean now. The valve with a spindle up the middle and a tiny nut on it to lock it down. Have you tried EBAY.CO.UK ???

Sorry Lawrence - fact is, this is a motorcycle site! Certainly there are a few here who have pushbikes but to most of us, if it doesn't have an engine, we're not interested! Good luck with your search though!

Ah, you mean a treader lbhh.gif

I know what he means by air chuck and I think I know what matey wants. But I don't have a clue where to start looking for one - sorry verysad.gif

i'd try the compressor manufacturer, we have adapters in the bike shop for presta to schreader but it sounds like you've already got one.

in the workshop we just use a piece of rubber tube on the end of the blow line to pump up the presta valved tyres.

I ride a mountain bike too and my floor pump has a reversible head to suit either valve type. It's a JoeBlow by Topeak, might be worth contacting them. I use it on the CBR too, the tyre pressures on that are actually less than the mountain bike and it works fine.
