Hi guys !
Sorry to ask this strange question, but I'm coming from France, and am curious to know about other countries ways of driving.
In our country, there is a big difference between riding a car and a bike.
You don't follow the lanes on your bike. When driving on a motorway, there's an imaginary lane between the 2 leftmost lanes on which we use to drive. People there know how it works and usually leave enough space for us to pass. This is very helpful in the traffic jam in the morning or evening.
I know that German bikers stay in their lane. I was surprised to see one blocked in the traffic jam, stopped, waiting behind his lane, foot on the floor... He must still be there at this time...
I'd like to know about your behaviour and the relations you have with car drivers.
Thank's !
jipi

Filtering in traffic is not a problem but many drivers still believe it is illegal and can often try to block your progress. Check out the riding skills/biker tips for a greater perspective

~5-10% of car drivers will move over to give you more room when you are riding between lines of traffic
~50% will do nothing - they wont even see you until you have gone past
~40% will see you, and do nothing, but still leave you room to go through
much less than 1% will try and block you or get upset about it

carefully, watching out for every idiot and his auntie
You will find it very different from riding in France, having visited your country and enjoyed your roads I imagine you will find drivers here rude, inconsiderate, frustrating, stupid and arrogant... in fact much like we do

Seriously though riding in France is much nicer than riding here.

One thing that I've noticed here that makes me furious is drivers that rent the fastest lane and just stay there...in the fastest or middle lane, when everything is clear ahead...
and also the drivers who think a simple indicators gives them the right of jumping in front of you....they go in the middle lane, see a car 1km ahead and they just indicate and jump in front of you....
sometimes I wish I had a lorry to throw them out of the road!!

As I see, you ride as we do, but car drivers are not as well 'educated' as ours...
This is what I imagined while passing a few british drivers in France. (Some of them come to us for holydays). Lots of them don't leave any space...
By the way, could you tell me what your laws say about this ?
In France, even if everybody tolerates it, our code says it's forbidden. If you crash a car while driving between 2 lanes, for the insurance, it's 50/50 in the best cases.

Very much the same jipi, it is not illegal but we are considered 50% wrong in the case of a collision. It's very unfortunate but our car drivers are not generally very well trained as most of them haven't had the same mofa riding experience as many (most?) of those on your edge of the continent of europe do (France, Belgium, Nederlands)

Some of the car drivers do pull over to help you past but there are times when they pull over and it just isn't safe. I've seen a couple of car drivers looking at me in the mirror and waiting for me to pass and wondering why I won't.
