Full Version: worst road in the uk

I would like to nominate the A 647 Stanningley road as potentially the worst road in the uk.
In the three miles i ride to work i hit countless potholes,
subsided manhole covers, trenches, and crumbling tarmac.
there is one particular trench that runs from one side of the road to the other you have to go over it no way round the only.
It's one to avoid i can assure you.
anybody else got a road they'de like to gripe about?
After all we all pay our road tax don't we?

That's not so easy up here.

There is one that I sometimes ride home. The B788 used to be a good road for a run. But its been neglected for decades. The first part on the road is still great but after a few miles. the surface starts to break up and it becomes really dodgy. Its a pity because it could be a cracker, if only somebody would do some work on it.

This is me on the good bit.

You should come up here TC, you'd be spoiled rotten. I have been known to go out and ride 300 miles in one day, without finding a dodgy road. They're kept in good nick for the tourists.

Although most of the roads around town, are just a crap as anywhere else.
ZOMB!E
I would like to nominate colchester.  Its not a road I know but the inner roads round here are abysmal.  falling apart, constantly being patched with crap repairs that last as long as it takes til the next bout of rain and then falls apart again.  Currently we are leading the country by having the greatest number of roadworks per mile of road than any other town in the country.  As a consequence of this we also have more traffic lights per mile of road than any other town .  They are currently working close to where eb and i work to change the road layout from two roundabouts over about two hundred metres of roads to two roundabouts and SIX sets of permanent traffic lights!   Congestion at peak times is incredible in this little area and part of the imp[rovement scheme is to build a slip off the a12 and a big road to bring it all staraight to this junction under the bridge where they're putting in all the traffic lights.  Brilliant.

I'd like to nominate the A20, I have to run the gauntlet on this bag of sh!te every day and i'm sure it gets worse every morning veryangry.gif There are bloody great pot holes, hardly any tarmac left and to top it all, there's a 6 inch wide "trench" that runs the entire length of the centre lane between swanley and Crittles corner. What the feckin hell is the government doing with the hard earned cash we stump up each year on road tax ? cos they sure as hell aren't using it to make the roads safer, and they've got the nerve to have constant digs at us bikers and the high levels of accidents each year, well Mr Transport Minister, get your fat arris out of your numerous Jags and on a bike, then see how you like it tosser veryangry.gif  veryangry.gif  veryangry.gif

Sorry folks, rant over, i'm going for a lie down now in a dark room mad1.gif

Agreed smile1.gif - just planning a jaunt in July - wife and kids in the car up the (yawn) A9 - I'll take the A85 / A82 up to the green welly, then thru the Great Glen - meet up for lunch in Inverness, then head over to Ullapool which is a gorgeous bit of tarmac - Final stretch up to Lochinver is pretty damn good too.

probly let Alex (son aged 11) on the back from Inverness.
