Hi, I'm a little new here...I'm real glad I spotted this site...it looks great !

I wanted to ask you guys a question, I'm keen to get hold of a 400cc trail bike, as I fancy having a go at some fairly lighthearted off-roading, but also I fancy to have the style of bike again like what I learned to ride on....which was a Yam DT-125.
What I wanted to ask was two things really, firstly and most importantly...I find that with trail bike not bieng as popular as sports machines (certainly where I live) that there is not as much written about them, and I'm finding it difficult to come up with ideas for the best bike in this class.
When I bought my last bike, it was nine years ago, and I was reccomended to go for the CBR 600, which at the time was rated as best 600. I was glad that I listened to everyone (and not gone for the cheaper Bandit 600, although I don't doubt they're fine too) the CBR has been great, and I'm never sell it

1, What would you recomend that I look at, if I want to buy a brand new 400 ? - I've heard good reports on the Suzuki DR400, but I'm a bit of a Honda man, and wondered about the Honda XR400 - these are the only bikes that I know of at the mo, please suggest other options if you can

2, Where on the web can I find reviews on this style of bike ?

Thanks very much for reading this, and I look forward to your reply

The DR's are a good range of bike.
I used to have the 600 and a friend of mine toured Iceland on his 350.
I would heartily recommend them buttrock.gif

If you can find one, then the yamaha YZ426 or the WR400 are amazing bikes.

Also the Husqvarna 610 are cracking machines, great handling and good top speeds.

The only thing IMO that hinder these bikes are that they have small tanks and they like to drink.

That goes for both fuel and oil.

a WR400 drinks oil ? - I was looking today at what I think I remember was a WR400 Yam, it was a curreny model and a nice example - why would a modern 400cc four stroke drink oil....or fuel for that matter....are you sure ?

the last 400 machine that my mate had was a pretty cheap thing to run

Fair point mate, but in my opinion, the yz does like a sup of pettyrol on a ride out.

The 400 KTM seems popular, I know a few people who do a bit of serious off roading and they seem to rate it highly. Not tried it myself though!
