Full Version: False Neutrals...

During the past 3 ride outs, toward the end of the ride I've managed to hit a "neutral" between 5 & 6th (or 4th and 5th... can't remember how many gears I've got actually blush21.gif but there's not enough of them laughcont.gif ) which results in screaming revs and embarrassed looks over shoulder Oo1.gif

Is the gearbox on the way out? Or are they made like that?
Hilts
I found many false neutrals in the GS500 gearbox I did my training on. Nearly dropped it on one occasion - fortunately the instructor knew about the gearbox and did not blame me, though he could so easily have done  :shifty:

Now that was a Suzuki

It might be the box, or it could be you just not being positive m8.
I'm not aware of Bandits having a dodgy box, but if its got some miles on it perhaps the dogs may be worn-i'll put my money on it being you 7 not the bike grin.gif
(i occasionally miss a gear on the bruiser-usually the day after i've been riding the cruiser blush21.gif )

Yeah, but you know me... laughcont.gif

I shall monitor the situation (anyone got Hans Blicks' number to hand laughcont.gif ) and see what develops... there weapons of mass confusion in that gearbox I am certain devil1.gif

I've got a gsx 250 and that also has false neutrals it needs a hefty kick to shift up, but not down. nod.gif

Suzuki boxes are generally trouble free - is the chain tension ok? That can have a bearing on things.
ima
ha ha this could be the problem i'm fairly certain my chain is knackerd i can pull it about 10mil off the back of the sprocket.
new one on the way. smile1.gif

D'oh!  :verysad:

FF, I've checked the tension on the chain... looks fine to me according to the handybooky of course.

Perhaps, as you say, I am being a little gay at times when changing up blush21.gif
devilpaint
I might be opening a Pandoras Box here-but do you use clutchless changes up the box?
As FF says the chain tension has a lot to do with it. does the handybook mention checking the tension with the wheels on the ground?(takes up the slack in the NEW suspension)
Do you always wear the same boots?

Oo1.gif Err, how else would I do it? I don't check it when it's on the paddock stand by the way... and the Bandy doesn't run to a centre stand old chap blush21.gif

In fact, now you mention it... the shock seems to be the key. It's only happened since that was fitted... perhaps anothe check then Oo1.gif

Not always, but mainly... I had Mrs B on the back and find that I'm slightly less seesawwy if I use the clutch blush21.gif when that's the case but when out and about by meself almost always clutchless.

And Pandora's box is much over-hyped imho  :laughcont:

Ah, has it had a different grade of oil since the service?
