get a kit and do it yourself..
a bit of proverbial p*ss to do ! polishing mops that fit in a drill work quite well and you can end up with something like this...
before and after... the crankcases and other bits were all done with a drill and a home kit

I used solvol and wire wool as recommended by zombie.
then finished off with dry wire wool on it's tod.
took about two days solid to do both wheels.
I now have hands like a vultures claws and my fingertips would put the tin man to shame.
But my rims are shiiiiinyyyyy..

Sound easy but i have to strip off the paint first and i dont want to have to reaint the spokes.
Bought a cheap kit fron the local HG but its sh*t,only good to buff up the endcans.
EB did you laquer the alloy after you polished it?

nope, laquer tends to crack and flake off of hot engine casings, altho its ok for wheels. i was chatting to a guy with a new harley vrod the other week and they dont laquer the wheels.. a pain to keep clean apparently!

We have known for some time that alloy pollished will not take the lacquer of the infidels and will spill it and corrode as god intended. Pollish and keep pollishing - this is the way and the truth.

Ging, get some 1200 grade wet & dry paper & rub the rims with it,(use it wet) this will remove the laquer without having to worry about the spokes, & give them a head start for the polishing mop-or if its a Kawasaki-ride it through a puddle or 2 & the laquer will fall off.

DP Will i be able to get a mirror finish with just wet and dry,
and another question how do i get scratches out of a metalic paint, t-cut wont do it and i dont want to use a cutting compound without some advice first, oh by the way its black.
Looks like my 4 year old took a stone to the side of the tank.
Little darling!!

if its into the paint & through the laquer, then its a paint job Ging.
Try some Colour Cut, anything harder will just remove the top coat of laquer.
You could try rubing with 1500 grade wet & dry, use wet with plenty of soap, then finish with Colour-cut-but be VERY CAREFUL.

I think your right its probably through to the paint,i have made up some tank protectors from black vinyl round about the mould for your legs and this covers 90% of the scratches.
But i see a full set of plastics ,tank and lights on ebay , so far its reached £420, a bit rich but im tempted.
cheers Alan

sadly DP is right - if its through the laquer on metallic paint then painting is the only option. You can cover it up a bit ( read zombie bashing cones on the road works)

If its met black, & just the tank, you aint gonna pay anything like £420 to get some-one (me) to paint it back to standard,
If you can live with it I suggest you leave it until the weather gets crappy, then get it done.
This is not me touting for business BTW

I can live with the tank as it is just now, its just that second hand spares for a falco are like rockin horse doo doo and it seems like a really good deal, but the bids are still going in and its at £460 now.
Posted on the aprilia site to see if anyone wants to split the cost /parts with me.
