Wouldn't touch any of them if you were thinking of riding on the road.
aaron91
No
It is for off road riding
Sorry I didn't mention it before
LAD
I doubt it. you would probably use it for 5 mins becuase you cant stand the pain any more and then leave it at the back of the garage.
Honda make some really good off road/on road bikes or pure off road.
At the end of the day it depends where you want to take it. green lanes a small field ?.
aaron91
What do you mean cant stand the pain?
BTW This will be my first bike and i dont want to spend more than 275 max 300
LAD
Have you ever ridden any of the small kids bikes (essentally that is what they are). they are a tad bit unconfortable for long peroids unless you are 3 ft tall. On a serious note save your money. They are not proper bikes they are just toys, aimed for 5 minute fun. They are great for a bite fun. I personally would not buy any of these. They dont tell you who makes them and the ones that do i have never heard off, which should be ringing alarm bells.
save your money nad save to get something that you will not discard in 5 minutes. a realistic bugdet for an off roader would be £800 upwards

All of the cheapish ones on eBay are the same. Just choose the one you like best.
aaron91
Where do you think I should buy one from then?
I wont be spending more than 300 as Im only 13 and i will get around 350 for my 14th birthday.

There's usually a Motocross club in most areas, you could find that out by going to any shop where they sell off-road gear. Contact that club and ask if anyone is selling an older bike of a proper make.

Have you got somewhere to use the bike?

Are you looking at this as a way into motorcycling, cos if you just want it as a toy then I guess any of the ones you posted might be ok but who knows? You need to have someone who can maintain it for you cos it would be expensive to fix if it broke - in fact for those with no name, I don't even know where you would get the parts!

On the other hand if you want to get into riding then the Moto-X club is a good place to start.
aaron91
The bike is only for messing about on.
On a few of the ebay ones they offer full parts back-up service.
Paracaine
If you just want a cheap mess around bike they will be fine but you would be better to save up a bit more and get an older 125 moto-x bike, you would have a big advantage when you turned 16/17 then because you would be used to the gears and stuff.

The Yamaha DT125 LC (the '82-'89 model) can be picked up for within your budget. It will out last any of the ones that you posted, and it will be a lot more fun.

Like this one.

The Yamaha DT 125 that was posted by Tarzan looks good but i think the price will end up around £400 and it is in somerset and the item is pickup only.
I live in huddersfield and it is far away from somerset.
Tarzan
This months Used Bike Guide lists them as: condition 1, £700. condition 2, £400. condition 3, £150.

Keep looking and something will come up locally.
BikerGran
There is NO WAY you would want a 'condition 3' Moto-X bike! It means it's practically a wreck!

I reckon for what you want any of those cheapies would be fine, go for the one with the part backup - depending of course on the seller's feedback.

No, certainly wouldn't suggest anything that far down the scale, but there are some good examples to be had in the £3-400 bracket. Like any second hand buy though you have to check out the individual bike carefully.

The DT, (also not excluding it's Suzuki and Honda counterparts), is a trail bike, and is a different animal to a full MX. The one I gave as an example is not very typical, as the majority come in full road legal spec. A lot of those can have had a fairly easy life.

Sorry BG I am sure you know this, but I think what I was suggesting maybe didn't come accross properly.
aaron91
Well i am thinking of buyng this
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...ssPageName=WDVW

what are your thoughts on this?
The guy says he will take 300 on collection so hopefully we can come to an agreement when me and my dad can pick it up.
Tarzan
Hmmmmm. Not sure about that. Selers only feedback is on the same item, looks like they mutually withdrew from the sale, and it is now 100 quid cheaper. Also I am not sure this is a genuine Honda brand, but I could be wrong.

Careful with that one if you go to have a look.
aaron91
well its either that or
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...816120&tc=photo

and there is nothing in bike trader cheaper than 650.
Paracaine
What do you want?

If you want a fun play around bike that isn't very comfy or practicle, high maintenance and won't last too long get the pit bike.

If you want something that is fun, good to learn off-road on and fairly useable get a 125 dirt bike.
aaron91
so paracaine do you think the honda dna one then for 300 quid

It seems ok for a pit bike but I am sure that it is not a Honda.
BikerGran
I can't find any mention of "Honda DNA" on the Honda website so I agree it's probably not a Honda.

It's really impossible for us to say which is the best one to get, I don't think there's anyone on here who knows anything about childrens bikes, anyone who does would be buting something of a reputable make but I simply don't know what those makes are, sorry!
