Full Version: Practical Test Fees

I'm sorry to say that I have snooped and been reading another forum. blush21.gif

One of the threads on {the other forum} was about a guy that failed his DAS test and was going to have to pay £110 to take the retest. Another guy stated that he had to pay £130 to retest.

Well, I'm confused.

http://www.dsa.gov.uk/Category.asp?cat=36

States that the test fee for a motorcycle during the week is £51.

I understand that you need need your instructor with you to be able to ride the bike to the test centre, but do the instructors really charge £60 - £80 for this privilege?

That is horrendous! I understand that the instructor is standing around for the time that the student's on the test, but £80 for an hour's ride and 40 minutes (ish) standing around? Come on!

Please can somebody tell me that I have got it wrong?

Please?

As far as I am aware you should only have to pay the retest fee of £51, but I suppose some centres may also make another charge for the re-hire of the bike, instructors time on the day etc.

The cost will be the test fee, a pre-test hour's lesson and the "rental" of the bike to cover insurance etc.

I think that my test day was about £85 or so. Definitely not over £100. Seems a lot unless they're having more than an hour's lesson.

Thanks for the replies. I suppose it also depends on where you are too...

I think I paid about £100 for my retest, that involved a 2 hour lesson before the test, the bike hire and the test fee.

Ditto.

And was well worth it.

At my local centre its £30 per hour for a lesson normally.

A DAS test takes the bike up for 2 hours due to the distance to the centre but they have a set charge of £50 for the 2 hours you need the bike (getting there/back is an hour).

Add that to the test fee and its close to £100.

I must have been one of the lucky ones! Oo1.gif

DAS course was a "guaranteed" pass, so even if I did fail (which I didn't cool2.gif ) then there would have been no cost apart from the test. That was 8 or so years ago. wink1.gif

Over the 100 mark does sound a bit excessive just for a re-test. rolleyes.gif

Luckily it doesn't effect me. Although I will be looking at more advanced training in the next few months! Something to bear in mind I think.

That and ordering a new keyboard! Just had to go through this whole post and add spaces! Grrrr veryangry.gif

Collin, Paragon do a 6 Day Surepass course, you get free retests.
cornellfinch
As I've already done the CBT, I don't need the 6 day.

Have already spoken to them and they will do the guaranteed 3 or 4 day course for around £400 buttrock.gif

Thanks for the info though! bowdown.gif

I had to pay £150 for my retest (in London) which included the test fee, instructor training (whole morning) and the bike hire.

for my retest all i paid was the £51 booking fee, I borrowed the instructors bike but had no tuition or anything.. i met him there - took the test- then he went.

I havae been quoted £510 for a 4 day course inc bike hire n stuff, the test fee and the garanteed pass thingy, (an extra £60 inc in shown price) and if i pass 1st time i get £40 back! (its usually £82 ish per retest at one stop in colchester if not included in ur test package thingy :-s)

I've booked my theory and my assessment to see if i can get it down to 3 days instead of 4 days!

triple figures does seem excessive for a re test tho!

TBC xx

my test- booking it tomorrow grin.gif will cost about 400 for a 3 day intensive+bike hire+test, the tuition is brilliant too smile1.gif
