Hi people,

Rather than becoming a biker widow (or whatever the male equivalent is) I am thinking of getting a 125 and joining the fun.

Can anyone reccomend a cheap, reliable 125 to get me started.

Nothing too flashy, nothing too boring, nothing too expensive.

Who knows, I may even get to met some of you at a meet soon. I've heard alot about you.
[JP]
Welcome!!

Heard a lot about us?How is that?
Hope it's all good stuff...

the mighty learner 125 is the CG125....everyone looks for one after the cbt....so, they might be difficult to find, however there's one member, Sloth that has one for sale, in the Bolton area if you are around there.
Check the for sale section.

Don't go for race replicas as they might me expensive to mantain and to repair in the case you drop it....

Welcome aboard, what a great idea!

So, the other arf is a biker and you've heard a lot about us....

So who is the other arf? I guess we know her.......

As for what bike - 125s are quite hard to find cos they're very much in demand, so I'd say whatever's going cheap in your area!

just looked at a dt125

quite liked it

are they any good?

are there any similar bikes that i should take a look at?

Cheers for the help

p.s. Just for fun, I'll keep you guessing about my better half.

CG's are great first bikes. My wife has one, I started on one and I am currently re-building another one (suppose that makes me a bit biased lbhh.gif ). However I would highly recommend them for a first time buyer.

Welcome dude hello.gif
Great idea! you'll have a blast....what bike does your partner have?
Depends what you are looking for..... as others have said the CG is a great learner bike, a real dependable and easy to ride work horse. If you fancy a lower, naked more cruiser style bike the Yamaha SR 125 is a good all rounder (I did my CBT on it) but may be a little low for you. Depends how tall you are? In which case the DT is certainly higher.
I have a CBR 125, a little sportier, different riding postion that handles really well and looks quite nifty (my opinion!) but some may say it's a little small. Ideal for me though... wink1.gif
Whatever you decide to go for have a great time! grin.gif

All the best hello.gif

I highly recommend a CG, I've got one, there;s a few CG styles out there in different years, avoid the clones though (hondou etc)

They're easy to take to bits too.

I did my test with someone on a dt. it overheated was hard to start and constantly flooded. I dont like them but, its up to what you like and find comfortable to ride ,so go and try a few.

CG's suck.

Get a Yamaha DTR125 or a DT125R.
LAD
No dont do it. the dtr are good if you want abit of off road fun but for road use they are in my opinion rubish.
Although you do have nice bit of country side to go around.
BikerGran
The CG is the oldest model of learner bike, it's been available almost unchanged apart from cosmetic stuff for years and years, which must mean it';s not bad......

The DT is higher, might be better if you are too tall for a CG.

ah once again the voice of reason, you are really trying,
yes thats it just really trying.

Dude
if you want economy, then the likes of the CG or yam SR are fine 1st timers.
the strokers are a bit more lively, but less fuel economy, & can be a pain in the arris if not looked after.
you wont lose that much on a cg or sr, but you will with a race rep or 2-stroke.
stay away from the aprillia rs125-brilliant machine when new , but sadly rarely looked after & an absolute bitch to do a cbt on.

CG's suck.

A truely constructive comment...

Paracine, do you even know which CG you're talking about CG125 B or C or E or S or T or BR or BRJ or BRK for example?

What does it lack? Power? It wheelied, smashing it's number plate....

Speed? 75mph for a 125cc 4 stroke with no performance mods is pretty ok for me.

practicallity? £5 a week or less isn't bad considing it's ridden daily for commuting and leisure.

If it is, you should have grabbed a certain Sachs Roadster before it got traded. ooh2.gif

The CG's are great bikes. Not covered in plastic like some of the sports 125's but good honest bikes, which do exactly what they say on the tin. They are great bikes for getting you ready for stepping up to a bigger bike. They don't cost too much and they hold their value compared to other 125's.

There's a bit at the bottom of this article that helps explain the different types of bikes.

Correct young sir, just before they squeeze, bang and blow for many a mile.

I thought the CBR125 looks pretty good. I personally would rather buy a modern piece of engineering than a 20 year old design. Each to their own though . . .

I may have mis-interpreted you thouugh, if you're saying that you don't like retro styling.

Exactly, that's the best attitude, if you dislike something, doesn't mean it "sucks" just means you prefer something else.

I am glad they have added a disc brake to the front. I think i did my test on one and performing the emergency stop was a funny experience, coming from a rs to that.

They seem pretty indestructable though and more relaible than a bike like a DT.
